Default Tipping Cashiers

This is not really about cruising but about tipping at food court in malls, etc.

A couple of years ago, I noticed tipping jars at change booths in casinos and at registers in fast food resturants. Now it has spread to some of the fast food places at mall food courts in malls here in San Antonio.

Am I supposed to tip people for taking my money, especially when they would be incapable of making change if they didn't have a computer to figure it out.

I don't mind tipping a waiter in a resturant, but is this a sign that tipping has finally gotten out of hand?

I really don't think so when they have a sign that says tips and have a couple of dollars in the jar.

My friends say when they put the tip jar out in the morning they always take a couple of their own $ and slip them in there to make customers think others have tipped big. I have dropped the change in it before instead of carrying in my pocket just as a convenience.

I think it is riduculus and I put NOTHING in it. Keep on going floks, soon we will have to tip the grocery store cashiers . And if we all just keep on tipping , soon the employers won't have to pay ANYONE more then slave wages. So who will benefit from this????????

I think tipping has definitely gotten out of hand. I refuse to tip anyone for simply making change or ringing up my fast food. Even in restaurants, the "expected" tip amount has been slowly creeping up. It used to be that 15% was considered a good tip, then 20%, and now it's creeping towards 25% in many places.

I never tip in the fast food places, dunkin donuts, mall, etc. and I firmly beleive that tipping is getting out of hand. It seems that everyone has their hand out these days. I know the workers at fast food places and dunkin donuts make at least minimum wage. Waitstaff in restaurants make less than minimum wage (or at lease they used to when I waitressed) which is why you're expected to tip.
