I think that out of all the cruise gripes I can possibly think of the one that gets my goat the most is the photographers!

I don't want a picture taken of me when I have been flying for 24 hours from New York to Istanbul. I don't want a group photo of myself a some people I share a dining table with and have nothing in common with. I don't want a picture of myself heading to the beach with my potbelly tummy, ghost-white legs and my sunscreen covered nose.

And the prices are insane!

Paul: you've hit on my husband's pet peeve! We noow grin and bear the "Welcome Agoard" and lifeboat dr4ill shots since everyone looks equally frazzled in the first and silly in the second. From there on it's no thanks unless it's with people we want to remember.

For some reason cruisers hate the photo opt with the pirate. Believe it or not we actually bought one of those silly ones, it really was a good one :-) My daughter even has her in a frame in her room. I also bought the "dinner table" one from the last cruise and that too was very good :-)

Do these guys and gals get paid by the picture or what. They sure seem to be everywhere. I just smile and throw the pictures away as soon as they are posted.

Um.. Vicki

Yes, actually they DO get paid by the picture, the ones you buy that is. You aren't supposed to throw them away, or even remove them, unless you pay for them first.

I sometimes will buy one, but I don't like the way I photograph. I have spent many occasions looking at the pictures of other passengers and laughing at how ridiculous THEY look, though ;-)

Yes, they are on 100% commision by the amount of pictures that are sold. We took a photography class on our last RCCL cruise through the Panama Canal. The photograper/teacher who we got to know fairly well was probably 18 years old and on his 1st. assignment from the UK. Believe me he also had a lot to learn about photography. But we always spend too much on those photo's especially always like to purchase the one of our table group.

I wonder how many people buy them because they are so bad it is embarassing to leave them on the shelves...

It sounds funny, but I'll bet you it happens a lot, especially if someone is traveling with a group of friends and a picture is particularly embarassing. Or they could just do what Vicki C does - take it off the shelf and throw it away ;-)

On Voyager, they had a sign posted about having the staff remove the photos if you didn't want them. They would then toss them.

It used to drive me nuts - waiting in line for photos before dinner, having your pix taken during dinner, having your pix taken getting on the boat, getting off the boat, blah blah blah. Since we never buy them, we make it a game to see who can make the funniest expression.

We too laugh at the pictures of the other guests. It seems that there are many on the boat that also try to make funny expressions for a good laugh.

Default Funny Funny Picture

Thank you Paul. That's my Eric making the Jim Carey face and my Doug the other. I didn't buy this picture! I went to the photo area where they sell them and I used my digital camera to take a picture of the picture. I took the picture before some ship bird came over and told me to knock it off. Later, when I brought some folks to the area to see the picture of my boys, it had been taken down. The ship folks denied having taken it down - so, it was either stolen or bought by someone or they were lying to me.

He had several really, really funny faces that he made but this one was my favorite.

Thank you.

I have a bevy of them. I tried to get some pictures on an earlier cruise of the seat savers. I'll see if I can find them.

the photographers really annoy me. i know they are just doing their jobs but enough is enough. embarkation, every port, dinner etc..etc.. when we reach port i just walk on by the photographers and say no thanks. if i really want them to take my picture then i will let them know. i think more people should do what i do. it also makes the lines go faster.

Stay up on the topless sunbathing deck. Cameras and Video equipment aren't allowed up there :-)

I would be happy to live on a top-less deck if I could! I wouldn't need a camera, I would need a cold shower.

we've solved it! you know, that little slot on the photographers desk? well, the photos slide very easily down it and disappear! thats where most of ours went on last cruise...!

Hi Emma,
I remember a handsome photogragher who posed as the pirate.

I am sure that your boyfreind doesn't need to be told to take the kids photos. They made a bundle off of me. Lets see-there was one for grandma, GiGi, Aunty etc etc etc
Where else except at a wedding do I get us all dressed up! Reasonable price I think compared to hiring someone and well,I would never get to it.

We don't buy the photos, ( we did first cruise and now where are they ? in some box somewhere in storage) I don't mind them taking them generally, BUT what really gets my goat is when first boarding , you have to wait in this stupid line to get on the ship, you are tired, you have travelled , and you do not want to wait in anymore lines( which you just did to go through boarding procedures). And why are you held up? Photograhers. !!!!! There should be two lines period.

I agree with you pg, I hate being hassled when boarding. For some reason they think we are young first timers boarding the ship and really give us the gauntlet. I try to say "no thanks" but they insist it's free, I tell them I don't give a flying f, they tell me again it's free, then I stop and let them know that it's not our first cruise and that we've done the picture thing before and "at this time we choose not to"..........by then, I could have written a novel on the pool deck.
