The one common gripe I see in ship reviews is about the cabin steward. It usually goes like this" room was always neat and made up but the only time I ever saw the steward was on the last night".I presume that suggests that he/she was only there for the tip.As far as I am concerned that gripe is from someone who just doesn't get it. I personally am quite happy to have a steward who picks up on the timing when we are in and out of the cabin and takes care of my basic needs and requirements without interfering with our use of and time in the cabin. That said , I don't expect to be seeing the steward a lot.I consider the steward has done the job if my cabin is kept clean and neat and I have the basic supplies without asking. Room service deliveries are handled differently from ship to ship. Regardless of whether provided by the steward or a room service waiter , I treat this as seperate service and tip at the time.
What are your thoughts and comments/gripes about cabin stewards? .
Key to my heart (and wallet) ... when the steward lines up my massive collection of shoes.
Since I tend to go solo, I always tip more than the suggested amount since the steward would normally get two tips for the cabin. It's not double the amount, but enough to let him/her know I appreciate the fine service.
