Default Weight Gain

I am really upset that a smart researcher has'nt come up with a pill that you could take right before a cruise to prevent weight gain. I mean come on....we can put a man on the moon so we should be able to do that!!!!! I would pay top dollar for such a pill.

Heehee!!! Funny you should post this Rick, because I've been taking Xenadrine. I know your post was intended to be tongue in cheek, but would you let me share my experience with this with you? Xenadrine does not 'prevent' weight gain, but rather promotes weight loss. It's an over the counter supplement designed for body builders and weight lifters. I do wieght training and I personally think this stuff is actually working for me. Reviews on this product are mixed. Many doctors say "Don't bother and don't risk it", which is a legitimate caution to the general public who are not in good shape, maybe very overweight with other health problems. It does contain ephedra, which in large doses and in some people, causes some serious health problems and health risks. Combined with the caffeine that the product also contains, this could cause alot of risk to those with hyperthyroid, high blood pressure and/or family history of heart disease. It's billed as a "fat burner" and "metabolism booster". There are many similar (and EXPENSIVE) products on the market: Twin Labs Diet Fuel, Metabolife UltraLean, Ultra-LipoLean, etc.

I'm on the younger side, 35yo, and I'm basically in excellent health. I work out every day, using weights and aerobic excercise. I have found that Xenadrine does work for me to help burn excess fat...the upside for me is: it does not affect lean muscle mass. (Some similar products will also adversely affect muscle mass...this one does not appear to do that.) I am taking it under the supervision of my MD for some quick results and muscle preservation combined with my weight training work out. I've been on it for two weeks now and I'm seeing some serious results. The only real side effect I have experienced is : minor difficulty sleeping at times...I just get out of bed, do fifty pushups and I'm ready to go to sleep....

I don't think this product would be good to take over a long period. I think a three week stretch is probably okay for most people. Even some of the body builders I work out with say that you should not take it for longer than that at a stretch without an equal amount of time off. (Three weeks on, three weeks off.) They also say that during the "off" period, you should use heavier weights and when you've reached twelve weeks on and off together, you should quit for six months. (Did that even make sense??? lol!)

My other thought is: people cannot expect to take this product, or one similar to it, without working out or excercise and expect magic results. It simply does not work that way. But if a person who is in general, in good health, with no serious health risks, wants to lose some quick pounds, they might think about trying it. I do know that Dexatrim DOES NOT work and will not only suppress your appetite, but will suppress your immune system and adversely affect muscle mass. Arnold Schwarzenegger once wrote a book on body building and even if you're not into that, his thoughts on these types of supplements is very interesting and contains some really good, healthy advice.
Thanks for letting me share!!!

I've actually lost weight on cruises. Most cruises have a great selection of fresh vegies, fish, sugar free desserts, etc. Skip the high calorie soups and fatty meats. If you do gain some weight, you'll probably lose it in a month or so after the trip. The most I ever gained was 5 lbs (14 night cruise). It took about a month to lose, but it was worth every bite.

I must be a cow then! I gained 15lbs on my Carnival Victory sailing back in January. (I'll be going on another cruise in February 2002.) Between the daiquiris, the food, and lounging around, you're bound to gain a pound or two, or fifteen! Live it up and work it off later!

You are right in that it appears I was poking fun at fat people, actually I wasn't. I was trying to poke fun at the way people eat on these cruises, it's disgusting sometimes. Sorry!

Come on now NVABill, you don't indulge just a bit while cruising? Not at all? Maybe a drink to many, or an extra desert? Get a little too much sun, maybe? Sleep a little late or stay up to long? Maybe spend a tad too much at the casino? Everybody indulges on vacation. Some do it at the buffet, others in the lounge or casino or pool or whatever. It's not disgusting, it's vacation. That is what vacation is all about.
