When you said the mall, it made me think of an example!
My husbands parents are what I call 'white trash'. I am sorry, but, they are. I don't even want to be around them. But, that is for another kind of website all together.
ANYway-we have a mall near us that is in an elite area. No matter what mall I go to, I dress in nice jeans or shorts & nice top.
Well, my husband wanted to take his mother to this mall & then out for a nice dinner. While my husband & I dressed casually & looked appropriate, his parents looked like they had just done the
'chores'. His dad wasn't too bad, but, my husbands mother! UGH!
She had on a pair of hot pink ski pants-can you say 'soooo 80's!'
You know the kind-they go swish, swish when you walk. She wore scuzzy, dirty tennis shoes & a tacky sweatshirt that had spaghetti
sauce stains on it!!! Plus, the purse she carried was one of those old lady purses that USED to be white. Now it is so dirty you cannot tell what color it is. (We got her a new BLACK one for Christmas this year!)
Believe me, my husband has class! He would never dress like this!
I was totally embarrassed to even be seen with them!
Plus-at dinner, we were getting ready to leave the tip. They wanted to. We told them no, it was our treat. You have to argue with these people & get stern with them to get your point across. The meal was about $100 & the tip was to be something like $11 or $14. They were going to leave $1! Yes-$1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That waitress would have spit in our food next time we came in! No, we weren't flaunting our money. That was what the tip equaled out to be. I learned that on 'Friends'. You double the tax to find what the tax should be. It works out! (Thought you might want to know!)
So, as you can see, you need to dress appropriately. You don't have to spend a million dollars, but, you do need to invest in SOMEthing nice!

You only eat food on a cruise ship mabie 1 or 2 weeks a year..That is not going to make anybody "fat" over there lifetime. Most of you probably eat fast food and other "bad" foods more when your not taking a cruise. Dont blamb a cruise on weight gain. Im still 160 lbs and thats after 17 cruises over 9 years.

You are making one hell of a lot of assumptions against others in that my friend apart from how you see yourself.

But having said that even super athletes like me, can still gain a few pounds on a cruise

You do know your husband has his parent's genes right? and your children have their genes also if you have any. If you dislike them tha tmuch-maybe you should not have married your husband.

and if the meal was $100-and you were only going to leave $14? Yes your inlaws are not "with it" but neither are you. We tip 15% for so-so service but if we get good service we tip 20%-if we get excellent service (rarely happens) we even tip more.

The fashion offence you are referring to is called "Muffintop." Muffintops are where you wear those ridiculously lowcut pants that you have to buy several sizes smaller to ensure they stay up.

There is a website that shows fashion disasters, it is Glamour Magazine and page link is called "Don't Spotting" What it refers to is "Don't be caught dead in this, or rather hope no one has a camera while you are wearing low cut pants when you are NOT skinny.

Trust me, I saw a woman in the pedway this past week who was wearing low cut pants and a short top. This woman had to be close to 200lbs and she had triple layer muffintop. I don't know if she looked in the mirror that day, but she looked like she knew what she was doing, unfurtunately, I think many people had the same idea--buy a pair of pants that will keep the spare tires IN, not let them jiggle about.....

Really who cares how other people dress, if they are overweight or not, wear a toupe or not. If you don't like the sight look the other way!

Boy Rick must look like Brad Pitt with all the criticizing he does!

So, when I wear my matching hirt and shorts with white socks and white deck shoes, that's ok?

DTW you can wear that on any evening not just 70's nite. 8)

So am I tacky when I walk into the dining room on formal nite with my big hat!

I think it all depends on the person something might look good on one person and tacky on another.
