Re: HOCKEY GOLD FOR CANADA!
Congratulations, it was a great victory! But can someone tell me why a team filled with canadian NHL stars was considered the underdog? I still think the greatest Olympic hockey victory was by Team USA in 1980 when they had amateurs beating the pros from the Soviet Union and Finland!

Re: HOCKEY GOLD FOR CANADA!
Yes, but they were professionals - they were PAID to play hockey and be in the military - our guys were amateurs and college kids - a big difference, if you ask me. Plus, they were given NO chance at all to even make the medal round. I say agai, Congrats to the Canadians! Good game!
Congrats all you nice Canadian folks!!!! Great Game!!! Thats what we in the USA get for relying on a NY Ranger in goal. : (((
Paul those Soviet hockey guys may have been in the Army but hockey was their one and only job -- pros by any definition except the Olympic Committee. Adding the NHL just leveled the playing field.
GO FLYERS!!!!!!
Doug
(who does dislike lots the references to the end of Canadas 50 year gold medal drought and it started after I was born)
The old soviet union had such a huge player base to draw from, and since it`s break up it no longer is the hockey power it once was. Also the Canadian women`s team got the gold, and no they are not professionals.
I`m not kidding, all those guys were from the red army, granted all they did was play hockey, but to skirt the no professonals rule of those days thats what they did. As far as the olympic comittee`s rules were concerned these players were not professionals.Canada (and the US) were unable to truly put a team of it`s best players on the ice for many years, hence the 50 year drought of hockey gold for Canada.
Any Canadian will never forget the Canada vs Russia series of 1972, when our professionals played the so called "amateur" Russian red army team for a seven game series. Again Canada won that series.
P.S. I have to mention that the game of basketball was invented in Canada, by a Canadian.....
The luck of the draw put the Canadians in the pool without the Russians, who the USA had to play twice. They lost to Sweden, who luckily for Canada was eliminated by Belarus. A tie with the Czech's and two, one point wins over Germany and Finland propelled this team to the finals!!!!!!!! Real kick ass stuff. Good thing they won or they would be crying for 2 Gold Medals to be awarded.
Doug, You have the average IQ of a Philly fan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes I do have the average IQ of a Phlly fan Joe-- It was 140 somthing last time it was checked. Are you one of the miscreants from the blue seats at the Garden?
Joe,
Hockey is the Canadian game, that`s why we`re just so darned good at it. If you played us at Basketball I`m sure the US would win. PS sorry to say that Basketball was invented in Canada too!
I always thought that the game of basketball was invented by James Naismith in Connecticut in 1891 at what is now Springfield College. Did I miss something somewhere???
Any how.....Congrats to Team Canada on winning the Gold!!!!!!
Go Canada Go!! Cobble Hill, BC here! I couldn't believe what I heard about our Prime Minister, calling to congratulate the "men" and considering making that date a national holiday! What about the WOMEN! Anyways, Paul, I remeber the games of 1972, I even told my daughters about that when Canada was playing this time. I was living in Sandspit, Queen Charlotte Islands, and in grade 10. Our teacher let us have the radio on for every game, it was great! Enjoy the BC sunshine!

Sammy
