Mrs. Bill and I are booked on a cruise that as far as I can tell won't have anything to gripe about. We are going on an Windjammer Cruise(Flying Cloud) around the BVI's.
There are no deck chairs at all so no one can save one. There is no dress code and you don't even have to wear shoes (never mind who is not in a tux or has on shorts).
There is no casino so no one can hog or reserve a slot machine. There is no theatre
so no one can reserve a row. There are no elevators so no one will have a walker.
No kids under six ,ever. No liquor is allowed to be carried on board and this is a quite clear and highly enforced rule so no one can ask how to sneak it on. No keys to the room to lose, no sign and sail cards (after an hour the whole crew knows the name of all 65 or less passengers on board). No smoking below decks so no one can smoke in the one disco /lounge. They serve Bloody Mary's every morning (complementary) rum swizzles every evening(complementary) and red and white wine with dinner (complementary). There is only one suite on the ship and it has the only
TV VCR,queen size bed and mini fridge and guess whose room that is? Dinner seating is open seating so you do not have to ask the Maitre D for a table change and food is all you can eat (no worrying about asking for two entres). We leave May 24 and come back June 3. Two days on the beach in Tortola before and two days in St. Thomas after.
I'll let you know if we find anything to gripe about. If we do, it certainly won't be the run of the mill. Happy Cruising to all.
Oh yeah , Rick, you have to bring your own deck/beach towel (their towels stay in the room)so even I will do the finger thing to anyone who touches the towel since it is MINE.
When you return PLEASE write a review of this trip since my husband and I are taking the Flying Cloud in January! We were suppose to go last year but had to change things around. We are also going a couple days early and staying at least 1 after. From your message I take it you might have reserved the 'honeymoon suite'? Also interested in this as that's the room we have reserved. Again, please tell all when you get back - I don't sound excited about it at all - do I??? Enjoy.
We intend to write a full review(presuming we can remember anything). You don't see
much posted about Windjammer here. We are staying two days in advance on Cane Garden Bay at Ole Works Inn (honeymoon suite once again) and two days after at
Hotel 1829 on St. Thomas. The BVI music Festival is happening on the beach at Cane Garden Bay while we are there(did not know this until recently).
Do you know about coconutelegraph.com and windjammerfanclub.com? Other good site for BVI is bviwelcome.com. I arranged my whole vacation off of information from the message boards on these three sites.
Oh , for the gamblers, there are daily crab races on deck and betting is not forbidden.
I know this is suppose to be the 'gripe' page but it's so infrequent to come across someone going on windjammer, especially the Flying Cloud! Yes, thanks for suggesting the boards - I read the coconutelegraph, the windjammerfanclub, the bvi, etc. - lots of GREAT information on those. Also there's jammerbabe.com, which has some info too. We were in the BVI's last November and just loved it. We stayed at the Sandcastle in Jost Van Dyke and took the ferries everywhere. As I said before - can't wait to go next January!! In January we're staying at the Elm Beach Suites at Cane Garden Bay both before and then after and 'ferrying' to St. Thomas for our flights. Again, enjoy and I'll be looking forward to your review (if you can remember anything ).
