Hi,
Do you know how long it takes to disembark in San Juan with Carnival cruise ships. We are a group that will cruise from San Juan, Porto Rico in March 2003 and it will be the "school break".
Since we have not purchased air/cruise package with Carnival but cruise only, I would like to know if I have time to get to the airport on time. Our flight is leaving at noon and we should be at the pier at 7:00 am.
and take a taxi, avoid the Cruise Line bus, when we were last at getting off the ship in San Juan because we had a late flight, but we noticed that all the people who had much earlier flights and had gotten off before us were still waiting in line for the bus. We also beat them all to the airport, which meant no line at the ticket counter.
We were on the Destiny out of San Juan in May and had an early flight (anything before 1pm is considered early) and were in the priority disembarkation group. That meant we had to be in the customs line at 6:30am but we were off the ship and checked in at the airport by 10am wondering what we would be doing until 12:30 when our plane took off. Other circumstances can hold up the ship, people not reporting to customs is the main thing, but for the most part you should have no problems.
On most ships, the first passengers to leave are those with early flights -- but nobody leaves until (1) all luggage is unloaded and (2) everybody clears immigration.
You probably will find that disembarkation will commence between 9:00 and 10:00. A noon flight should be no problem in theory, but could become a problem if there's a snag that delays disembarkation. I would choose a later flight if there's a choice.
