Default switching from traditional dining to flexible seating on a

and not informing the Maitre'D, i mean how rude is that?? I know of people who have signed up for traditional seating and then just decide oh well, i don't feel like it, and switch over to flexible seating. Do you have any idea how that can screw-up dinner seatings? You are supposed to inform the MaitreD that you wish to switch from traditional dining to flexible dining, there are wait lists on some ships. Think about it would you make a reservation at a fine restaurant back home, and then last minute decide nope i don't feel like it, and not call the restaurant???? Thanks for letting me vent.

You're welcome!

Seriously, it's the "Me and only me" attitude prevailing here. Think of the gripes about cel phones, 2-way radios. Those would not be a problem if people would just use common courtesy. See the post of someone needing to dine with the Captain? Same thing, me, me, me. Better stop before I start on a rant!

It's also grossly unfair to one's tablemates in the "Traditional Dining" arrangement -- who probably requested "Traditional Dining" because they want tablemates!

Frankly, I think that the restaurant-style dinner arrangement is a loser -- but some cruise lines apparently think that it has value for marketing. The reality is (1) more noise and commotion in the dining room during dinner because other passengers are entering and leaving during your meal, (2) inferior service because you don't have the same waitstaff who get to know your preferences, and (3) you end up eating at the same times as traditional dining anyway because those times mesh with the shows and other evening events.

As a rule, I'll stick with traditional dining or not go.
