Default Why don't people get the ship's brochures for location of ca

There are so many people who ask questions about the location of cabins and it seems rather obvious that they've never looked at the ship's brochure. It's very easy to get the brochures: through your own TA, through AAA (and no you don't have to be a member) or through the cruise line's site ... they would love to send you the brochure.

Then when you have a question about the location of a cabin, or restrooms, or the casino, etc., you have something to refer to in glorious color. After that - post your questions.

They have the deck plans online (I like travelocity.com) too...

Sometimes though, there are things about a cabin that you can't see from a brochure...like the amt of noise from other decks, vibrations, or whether forward, midship or aft cabins are best...

You can also request brochures on-line, very easy. Its just nice having a piece of paper with the deck plans available, the main reason I preffer the brochures.

If you cruise alot on certain lines you should definately have the catalogs the cruise line offer. I consider these books my bibles. I wouldn't be without them. And thank goodness for post-its. Otherwise, how would my cruising dreams come true.

Study them carefully and if you have any questions, call the cruise line directly.

Don't make the mistake I did and book a room on the Horizon under the kitchen galley. It didn't say anything in the catalog on what this area was it was just blank, but I should have realized it was right next to the kitchen. I now steer clear of all rooms near the kitchens and sandwich myself in between two decks of rooms. I'm playing it safe.

Happy cruising.

Cathy...

The same thing happened to us on the Celebrity Horizon...six years ago.

We paid good money to be misled by that "blank space" you refer to
in the brochure. There was absolutely no indication that was the galley kitchen.

We were rudely awakened on the first night, to the racket of
dishes, cutlery and pots being banged around above our heads...and heavy
pallets being dragged. My husband went to investigate and found our bed was right below the dishwashing area.

This noise went on until 3 in the morning, and began again a couple of hours later
for the breakfast run.

We complained until we were moved, but that was only 3 nights later. By then
our nerves and vacation were shot from lack of sleep.

We videotaped this cacophony to let Celebrity know how wrong it was to sell people a cabin without leaving out critical information in their brochure. They didn't care...in fact, they said no one had ever complained about this before. Meaning, our complaint alone couldn't possibly be valid.

I would be disgusted if you got conned into this situation within the last five years.
It would mean customer feedback doesn't matter, and Celebrity is still leaving that space blank and hoping no one notices before they hand over their hard-earned vacation money.

Ever since we got shafted, we have boycotted Celebrity. And no, we're not naive enough to think they miss us. But we don't miss them either - there are plenty of other options for our three vacations a year.

I post this as a warning to others - check out those deck plans! Cut them out and align the elevator shafts so you know EXACTLY where you are! And if sleep is important to you on your holidays - follow Cathy's advice - make sure you've got cabins above and below.

Happy Cruising,
Judy.

Judy...sorry to hear you had the same problem.

I should have been very angry at my Travel Agent, but she's such a nice person I did mention it to her and she said she was sorry. They should steer people clear of those rooms also.

Anyway, I didn't let it ruin my cruise, even though I was cruising with relatives in which I booked this cruise for them and we also paid very good money. I apologized to them, but they still talk about what a great time they had.

I didn't boycott Celebrity, but I'm much more careful and I've mentioned on these threads to steer clear of those rooms. Hope it helps for others.

Happy cruising.

We also have a nice travel agent but her advice to us was...don't worry about the cabin, it will be fine (rear facing on the Empress deck of the Elation). She said the deck would be high enough to not hear the noise of the engines and the motion would be like a gentle rocking motion that would put you to sleep. WRONG on both counts. The noise was like being under a bridge with a freight train passing over and the vibration was just as bad, even the drawers rattled constantly. I lost my balance a few times from that "gentle rocking motion" in the cabin. The only time it was peaceful was when we were docked. It was our first cruise so we didn't know any better. We let our travel agent know when we booked our next cruise. She apologize but said she was just going by what another travel agent had told her, not ever having been in a rear facing cabin herself. Live and learn...

Melanie

Cathy and Judy, make that 3 of us! Our experience was on the Zenith and we were "over" the galley. Like an alarm, at 2 AM the rolling or huge stainless steel ovens were dragged over the stainless floors. We found out by taking the Galley Tour! Live and Learn. I have already asked my TA for the newest 2004-2005 Celebrity brochure as soon as it comes out. It helps keep up with changes and the future options.

I just got my 2004 brochure and I am looking at the Elation. I can hardly (that is a real exageration as I can't read at all) the things they show on the bronchure for lay out of boat. It is very very small print. I think I can find a larger version on line somewhere. However It does not look like the Elation has very many balcony rooms.
So that is probably one of the reasons people ask things, plus I don't see where they label any of the restaurants etc. I must need to studyt his more.

You're right the print is generally very small ... I use a powerful magnifying glass to study the layout as to cabins and public rooms.

Most brochures show the balcony cabins on the page where they have the prices. Each category usually gives a description of the accomodation - ie - balconies.

I have been trying for weeks to get Celebrity 2004/2005 brochures for Europe and Caribbean/New England . I have asked two TA, phoned Celebrity twice and sent three E mails to Celebrity. NOTHING happened. (E mails went unanawered)

Latest phone call Friday 15 top Celebrity brochure number brought reply " Brochures will not be available until end of September"!!!!!!!!

Strange but on the net I have read that passengers in UK have theirs and that many ships are already fully booked up for 2004. How do passengers manage to book for completely unknown destinations or dates?

What am I misssing here?
