Default Shower Sizes!

Now, I know that on the whole showers in regular staterooms on most cruise ships are on the small side. Now, I usually don't have a problem with this, but Princess has really gone overboard with this! On the Coral class ships (Coral and Island Princess) the showers in regular inside, outside and balcony staterooms literally measured 2.2 feet by 2.25 feet - and at the widest part there is the safety grab bar! On top of this, the shower heads are not hand held! Almost impossible for a regular sized person to take a decent shower in something that small.

What gets me is how low those shower heads hang from the wall. A normal size man like myself (6 ft.) has to bend over to get his head under the stream. And bending over for me can be dangerous when you've had as many Michelobs as I usually have. <g>

Thomas

Lisa:

Are the new ships as bad? Or is this just in the old Princess ships? Do they have a rotation plate on bottom and soap dispenser on wall so you can spin and soap up follwed by a spin dry?

Marc - the Coral class ships are Princess' newest ships! The showers on the Sun and Grand class are more roomier with hand held shower heads. The shower size is the one negative I have with the Coral class ships. Everything else I found to be great. There were a couple of times where I just went up to the spa area and used the nice big showers in the changing room to shower. I cringe to see what the showers are like on the upcoming Princess ships - Caribbean, Diamond and Sapphire.

Great gripe, Lisa! I can see how that would be a royal pain.

Cheers,
Michelle B.

i know exactly what you mean. The joke that you could sit on the pot, shower and shave at the same time is true on some ships.

man do I feel fortunate! On the Paradise, it was the opposite - extremely large shower (with adjustable height hand held shower head), and good size to the rest of the bathroom - two people at once even!! I think I've heard the same about other ships too, so I don't think all ships are created equal in the bathroom department.

Know what you mean about the Princess showers.

First the bath was the smallest we've ever had -- honestly, you could sit on the toilet *and* wash your hands at the same time.

And that fricking grab bar in the shower! Banged my elbow on it more times than I can recall.

The comedian was great on the Star Princess -- he said, "Why do we need the grab bar? If we hit rough seas, all we have to do is bounce back and forth against the walls."

Harry - so true!

readytogo - I was only referring to the showers on the Coral class Princess ships. Celebrity has great showers also! I just think this is one area where Princess needs to rethink their design plan.

You should try the shower on a Windjammer. The shower, toilet and sink area are all one in the same with a drain on the floor. To add insult to it all you have to hold the valve open with one hand to keep the water flowing. The good part is the toilet seat gets a good scrobing with each shower.

Yeah my aunt & uncle have a sail boat (around 40 ft I think) and I HATE showering on it! The toilet & shower are in the same thing, and you have to be careful not to clog up some area with water...it's SO annoying!

My first love is the Explorer (and by association her sisters), but the shower is a lot smaller than the Summit's. I was surprised to see that. The Explorer's is round and I fit OK, but the Summit's is almost normal size and not claustrophobic at all.

On the princess star, the showers have a hand bar but the showers are so small, if you fell you would just lodge yourself before ever hitting the bottom
