Default People who don't show up to dinner on time

I can't believed the inconsideration of people to be over a half an hour or more late for dinner. Then they gripe because the "dinner show" intefers with their coffee and desert.

OMG don't get me started on this one.

We had that happen to us but not at our table. The couple had a child and decided to come to early seating after the 3rd night. They arrived 45 minutes late each night.

This made our waiter have to return to the kitchen again and again thus slowing down all his tables.

After the 5th night we asked the Matre'D to change tables out of his station, not because of the waiter but because of the late arriving people.

The Maitre'D asked if he could assist our table and we were served by him and the waiter for the rest of the cruise (14 night) on the Millie.

I felt so sorry for the waiter and still tipped him and the Maitre'D and wrote them a personal note.

The waiter found me the last morning to thank me for the letter and he was sending it home to his mother. It was the first written thank you he had received.

The offending couple didn't show up on the last night either.

I agree - when you're serving that many courses to that many people, you need to keep to a tight schedule. I saw others arriving late and felt bad for the waiters who had to run around like crazy to catch up. If you want to come and go as you please, don't do the formal dining room!

It is so rude isn't it? If they can't keep to a set time then plenty of ships have a more open dining plan now,

If we were a half hour late getting ready for dinner, we certainly would not go to the dining room!..There is such a thing as being considerate to our tablemates and the staff.

My Dh and I were the only people at a table for 4. We always arrived promptly, eating dinner in the formal dining room is something I really look forward to. We got great service. The table for 10 that was also part of our waitstaffs area seemed to have every couple arriving 15 minutes after each other. Our assistant waiter spent all his time running back and forth to get food.

Just another example of people thinking that their time is more valuable than anyone elses. If you were going to a restaurant or dinner party and your reservation was for 8:00 and you knew they were on a tight schedule, why would you deliberately choose to show up late?? It's just plain rudeness!!

what happened to the policy of closing the main dining room doors 15-30 minutes after traditional seating time?

It also irritates me when breastfeeding mothers in the dining room start nursing their children 15 minutes into dinner, instead of starting with the appetizers.

OKAY, OKAY, that was just a joke--ignore it!

HeySailor....

Thanks for that one! I just came from the BF marathon and I busted up laughing when I saw your post. Do you have a suspicion that someone, who shall remain nameless (TR), is really just sitting back and laughing her hiney off at the pot she has stired up. Can anyone be THAT unyeilding to the feelings of others. I have to wonder...

Melanie

Oh, yeah, it was Florence's refusal to show up for dinner on time. For shame, Flo!

OMG... I cant even type I am laughing so hard. I am going to start a post about a breast feeding, chair hogging, towel stealing cruiser who comes to dinner late because she is waiting for her child to bring her a soda with the child's soda card.

Sorry Florence, but I was just commenting on HeySailor's sense of humor. It would have been pointless for me to post it somewhere else because she wouldn't have seen it. I didn't mean to take away from a very serious gripe...people, who for what ever reason, always come to dinner late.

Sometimes laughter is the best medicine..or so Readers Digest says.

Love it, Melanie. Plus, she's underdressed when she arrives in the dining room: "Ho up from the flo up," like Tokyo Rose's friend so tastefully describes her fellow cruisers. And she probably jumps the queue for the buffet, too!
