Default A View From The Topless Deck

My wife wants to try the top optional deck on our upcoming
cruise. But if there is a steady stream of gawkers, ogglers,
or whatever they are called it will ruin the experience for her.
Staring, leering, drooling are all in bad taste and a sign of
immaturity. So is wandering up to the top deck every 20
minutes for a peek. Admiring glances are fine but please
have some respect for the women up there and for yourselves.
My wife realizes guys will look and is okay with that. Just don't
be a jerk about it. That way everyone can enjoy the cruise.

Ha! No, no stopwatch Shubaby.

I tried to make the message as flame
retardent as possible. BTW, your 'Topless
Breast Feeding Formal Night' thread was
hilarious.

Trying to encourage an environment that is
comfortable for women to sun bathe topless
if they so choose.

Also stating that men, with or without a female
companion, have every right to be on that deck.

Simply asking the male visitors to excercise some
maturity and manners. Also letting the female
sun bathers know not to expect total privacy. It's a
public deck after all and any adult is allowed
up there.

If we all use a little bit of respect and courtesy then
everyone can be happy.

Tony, no need to yell, my post said we realize
people are going to look. We don't have a problem
with that. The problem is the immature behavior
and lack of courtesy that some of the lookers exhibit.
I like to look too, but not in a way that is offensive.

Yes, this is our first cruise. I've read so many cruise
guides and so many messages on this board that
i feel like i've been on numerous cruises.

When i first heard that Carnival has a topless deck i
mentioned it to DW, who has never gone sans top
in public. Her first reaction was "Ewwww, no way".
Then after a moment she said, "Hmmmm, maybe."
A little later she indicated that, "It might be fun to try."
This was all without any encouragement or
discouragement from me. I told her if she wanted
to try it, it was fine with me, that i would not object.

So that's where we're at and where we're coming
from.

Sorry Scott but there's no way that you can control how people handle viewing naked boobies- there won't be any boobie police onboard. From experience I have found that even in the Mediterranean and the South Pacific where woman regularly sunbathe sans tops, many men just can't help themselves from extensive gazing. If we woman are going to take em out, have to know that men are going to be watching closely.
Good luck....

I would tan nude, but this is a family cruise. I personaly don't care what people wear. Go topless, its not big deal. But expect people to look. Not everyone see's public nudity all the time. If you live in countires where nudity is on public tv, at the beaches, etc.. then its no big deal. Here in the states, nipples poking through a shirt is indecent. Grow up people, if you are offended by people looking at your breasts then don't take the top off. People are going to look.

I also believe those who are Most Offended are those who Stare!!!

Those who don't stare are the ones that think of it as no big deal.

Thanks for the feedback ya'll. You're right. Some
are going to stare and since that's the way it is we
can accept that. And in the whole scheme of things
you're right, it's no big deal.

Now more importantly, they don't permit smoking
up there on the top deck do they??? And the funnel
is smoke free too, right?, it's just decoration isn't it?
And also, does the chair police make the rounds
every 30 minutes or so to ensure there's plenty of
seating for all? I guess topless breast feeding is
not an issue since there's no kids allowed.

10 more days till our boat sails!

Seating will be as you can find it, but the topless deck has plenty of chairs. remember the topless deck is opitional, so you can sit up there even if you dont want to take of your top. its usually adults and lots of fun up there..... have a great cruise

Me and my 15 year old twin girls were up on a topless deck last year and had no problems with leering men.

I think that if you bear your boobs or whatever, people will look. If you still want to do that, then maybe you're just an exhibitionist. So admiti it.

From "More Modern Manners":

Any woman who wears a Victoria's Secret push-up bra and low-cut top is giving tacit permission to admire her breasts.

Look, but don't touch, says I.

Funny this topic comes up again.

My last cruise (2 weeks ago) the reverse phenomenon occured. A woman on the top optional deck appeared to make a couple of points by standing at the rail of said deck and above the "veil of modesty." Discretion not her virtue, there she was in all of her surgeon's glory! Everyone around the main pool, man, woman, and child, was able to get a free peek. And most did, myself included.

I was enjoying a rum and coke in the sheltered portion of the Lido when I noticed a lot of faces looking up and aftward. Of course, my eyes followed along--I may spend some time in a wheelchair, but as someone said, "I ain't dead." Seeing the spectacIe, I leaned across the table and very gently told my wife that a 15 year long record had been broken. As long as we have been married, I had not seen another pair of such feminine attributes without a screen of clothing. When she saw to what I had referred, she merely giggled. We only looked for the next 15 or 20 minutes, like everybody else around the main pool.

I'm no prude. I've been to a few clothing opional beaches. Of course, that was some time ago. And I have no problem that there is such a deck on any ship. My question is, why would a woman bother climbing the steps if she wants the whole ship to see what she ostensibly goes to that deck to hide? She could have as easily put on the same display around the Lido deck pool, for the reaction she invited.

And, yes, by her accent she was an American--Chris and I later shared an elevator with Ms. "Godiva" and another woman. So she had to be aware of the mores that apply among the majority of the ship's passengers. I have to admit, the plastic surgeon had done a terrific job! The only thing that could have been done to improve the display was a bag over her face.

Yes, Davyb. I do believe there are nude and topless public beaches around the country but they are well posted and generally frequented by people in nudists clubs.

Topless sunbathing is not common at all
in the states. It is non-existant in the
Chicago area where i'm from. So this
whole concept of topless sunbathing
is a new experience for many of us.
That probably explains part of the
fascination with it. For most of the
world its no big deal. But in the states
it is. Look at all the flap Janet Jackson
caused with her wardrobe malfunction.

I started this thread and have enjoyed
reading all the comments. We're back
home now. The top otional deck was
closed the entire cruise! Don't know
why. They weren't working on it at
all. Do they close this deck on cruises
with lots of kids (spring break)?
