Has this board lost something?

Dont know about you, but this Gripe board has lost something since the change in posting priorities or whatever it is called. I still dont understand how this is supposed to work and what the benefit is.

It now looks stale, no buzz about it, just look at the days between last posts on any subject. I dont think its due to the "mates" not caring, but the format and the inability to just jump into whats new or to posts that has just been updated are more to blame.

To me thats what Forums are all about. Put it back to how it was please CruiseMates

I totally agree, and with all due respect to the OP who posted it, the snitching of games from the library was at the top all last week with only 3 reply's

Bring back the controversy....that is what this is for. I don't care if the post originate during the cival war (or as we say in the south, The War of Northern Agression)....if it is topical....lets have it.

What we were trying to accomplish was stopping these threads that were just plain silly such as the breastfeeding one. They tended to get out of hand with attacks on individuals and became nothing more that he said, she said, you're an idiot, I'm an idiot, etc, etc and any real gripes were getting lost as it took so long for the board to load as these silly threads became so lenghty. Now if people stick to the idea of real gripes as this board was intended then we will definatly reconsider but if it just because people want to do completely unrealistic and foolish natter then this is the best way to prevent it.

Most of us had a lot of fun with the old format. We enjoyed gripes with a bit of humor thrown in. In addition, just about any gripe is minor compared with the fun of cruising.

If you look at the thread about the spelling of the word Loose/Lose you will see a very good example of why the format of this board was changed. It gathers posts all the time and THIS post would be the one buried behind all that off-topic junk. <G>

I enjoy griping about the gripes board myself.

As for free speech.................
This board is a lot like tuning your radio dial, if you like the music
on this station, stay & listen.
If you would rather listen to something else, change the station.
This is not an open public forum where you can say anything you like.
This is a privately run forum where we, the public, are invited to participate,
as long as we follow the rules.

Jim Bragg makes some excellent points and the loose/lose thing is a perfect example.

But is it wrong that it could be number one in the charts? Maybe its due to nothing better to discuss or listen too

What is actually happening is that the good chat, have a laugh and in between the jokes some excellent advice for other cruisers is being lost due to the posts being fragmented and lost.

Regular posters are now feeling they can't see the wood from the trees, but at the same time personal attacks either at the community leaders or fellow posters has to be frowned upon and I should know I've been on the end of them.

Having said, I feel this vehicle will give up and die if people dont have the ability for open, quick and responsable discussion

P.S. I think you guys do a terrific job on Cruisemates but this one decision ain't holden water.

Jim , you never said in changing it back that we would have to act in a mature manner.
That would leave out Kuki and Thomas and Rick and Me and about 100 other regular posters. You better switch it back now if maturity is what you wanted to find here.

Perhaps you could put a 100 post limit and then folks would have to start up the topic again if they want to continue. I actually post once in a while on a board for the BVI's that has a 30 post limit.

PapaBill, It is said that the degree of intelligene shown in others is directly related to how much they agree with you. <G> I was thinking the very same thing but not sure we can do this automatically. It would be nice if everyone here made the agreement to do this after 100 posts on their own.
