To me, there is just something disturbing (and disgusting) about people getting into the mindset of: "I already paid for it...and so I have to stuff my face as much as possible."
Just do what I do. Pass them another jelly roll and move to the opposite side of the vessel to help with the ballast. It's also nice to be a good neighbor and help push them through the turn-style or roll them down a gangplank when leaving the ship.
An anorexic woman? Why do I get the feeling that she was just in good shape and is being called anorexic out of jealousy?
Maybe so, who knows? I know on my last cruise I saw this poor woman who was so thin, her back bones were sticking out, I bet she did not weigh 80 pounds! She had on a backless halter dress and I am sure she thought she looked good, but I couldn't help but think of that show on "Cybil" when they airbrushed Cybill's photo on the billboard, Marianne looks at the billborad and says "Get that gal a hamburger!"
I think people know the difference between anorexic and good shape!
An anorexic is not in good shape at all.
There was an anorexic woman on a cruise I took a couple years ago. She was traveling solo.
She wore tiny bikinis and was very comfortable with the way she looked.
Her bones jutted out everywhere -- her arms were like sticks.
Her knees bulged out from the thinnest legs I have ever seen.
She sat near us at the pool each day and would bring a plate full of food from the Lido, put it down next to her, then cover it with a napkin.
Didn't touch a morsel.
People were staring at her whenever she walked by.
She'd ask a crew member to remove her plate around lunchtime, and she'd fill up another with food, then cover it and ignore it.
I have a friend who was anorexic as a teen-she said she thought her backbone jutting out meant she was fat-poor thing! Fortuanetely she was helped as she is now a woman in her fifities, and still with us.
Go back and read my post-I was quoting someone else who had said that-I was saying how I had seen a poor woman in a backless halter dress on my cruise who looked horrible-I compared her in my post to the Cybil epsiode where cybil's photo was airbrushed- but actually this poor woman looked more like a picture on a World War II concentration camp victim.
This subject always makes me sad. I always think of Karen Carpenter (as I am old enough to remember her) who was BEAUTIFUL when she first became famous-but became anorexic with her fame. Then her skin and hair looked dull and lifeless, besides beinging so thin. The poor woman died before her 35th birthday from weakened heart, a side effect of her anorexia and she had finially beaten the anorexia but too late for her weakened heart.
I am glad my friend was able to conquer it and is still alive at 50 plus.
