As others may point out, starting multiple discussions on the same topic is not recommended. Also, since this is the Gripes board, you should state your specific complaint. Is it that port lectures have become essentially "infomercials" or something else?

The article shows how passengers are often cheated when they buy art at art auctions

This poster has no gripe except that they are always looking for articles that slam cruiseing and the cruiselines. Just curious but has anyone ever seen any post from this person that tells of anything they have observed in the first person or anything that this person has to say nice about cruising?

Have bought art on three different cruises, and never had a problem. We got what we bought at good prices period...

My DH just loves the art auctions, and we have numerous pieces hanging in our home from our various cruises. Have about run out of wall space, so don't know what he's going to do on our next cruise, but he's talked of "rotating pieces." Seriously, I don't feel that we've ever been "taken" and have also gotten several free pieces (granted, matting and framing were very expensive, but we've gotten lots of compliments on our selections and would definitely do it again). Our DS and family are coming on our next cruise - they just moved into a big new house and can't wait for the art auctions.

We are now at the stage where we are "rotating"..I'm beginning to feel like an art gallery.. Neither of us are big time drinkers or gamblers and a great "souvenier" is our latest piece of art. There are still a few more waiting to be framed. If you become addicted, although they don't advertise it.. if you get the Park West credit card.. you can spread out your payments for ten months without paying interest..

I won't tell you how much we spent on our last cruise at the auctions, but we also got some great deals and were VERY happy with what we got! How did they know that we were looking for Thomas Kincaid, I will never know, but they must have!

We also got some free pieces, and yes, the matting and framing were very expensive, but hopefully they will do a good job........still waiting for the rest to arrive...

I've purchased three art pieces on the last two cruises and I am very pleased with my purchases. The free pieces you can receive are nice also. I will most likely purchase more pieces on future cruises.

We have purchased only a few pieces but have been very happy. Our daughter and Son in Law have a house full. I got one a few years ago (won the raffle) didn't have to pay a cent except, of course, the framing when we got back. I donated it to a silent auction this past spring and it sold for about $200. The Art actions are full, a way to spend about 1/2 hour or so and a chance to learn a little about art if nothing else.
