I do know that the Taurus wagon was never made as an SHO, I should have clarified that. Sorry. I also didn't know that SHO sedans are collector's cars. WHY? What makes them special? Just curious. BTW--I only have a wagon because I need it to transport daycare kids around. The other vehicle I drive is a Ford F150 pickup.

The Taurus SHO was a very high performance version of the Taurus. It included many performance upgrades including a Yamaha built V6 then later versions had a Yamaha V8. I bet your wagon is handy for haulin kiddos! F-150 is the worlds best seller! Well I am getting ready for our Elation cruise this weekend! Have a nice 4th!

Happy Cruising

Cheryl,

I will take some pics this weekend. Going to St Augustine for the weekend. Can't cruise until Novemeber but can still have some fun in the sun and drive the VW on the beach! Will see the fireworks from the boat and maybe even catch some fish.

Sorry about your Taurus. Maybe I can help you with with a new Odyssey!

ah yes the VW micro bus..boy does that bring back memories. beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we VW loyalist take pride in the fact that we think old VW's represent a beauty that will be ever lasting..Dave the Wave is bridging the generation gap and I would suggest for his next vehicle he purchase a 65 vette which is the definitive babe magnet

The "New" cruise passenger wants:

Neon everywhere!

Colors that assault the eyes.

Pseudo Chrome.

And to them this is a cruise ship.

They never ask themselves....if I were here totally alone, would it be as much fun?

For some maybe, but the key is not the age of the ship but the attitude of their fellow passengers, the work ethic of the crew, the enthusiasm of the entertainment and the quality of the food.

Heck, the ship that almost never sailed with an empty berth was the SS NORWAY. Now she qualified as OLD.

All I know that as we cruised along A1A and parked at Flagler Beach to check out the surf, all the kids kept coming up to check out our bus. I hardly think we would get the same reaction in a Taurus.

I want people to know that "old" does not mean that you have to use paddles to go, and they do have in door plumbing. Old for cruise ships does not mean old like in everyday life. We were told our ship was old. Ecstasy, but she's a great girl, and a lot of fun. I guess if I said "Go out and ride an old girl" it would sound to much like a tee shirt. lol

I am trying to decide what to name this ship. I want to call it "Sovereign of the Seas" or maybe "Lost at Sea". The tugboat pulling it will be a classic someday! Any suggestions?

Some interesting pics of the Norway. I've also read that many of the older cruise ships are being sold to investors who are converting them into condominiums. I'll bet that some high dollar real estate!

Hi Everyone,
I want to add the Premiere Seabreeze(1958) to the list. Those old ships are awsome. Of course it was falling apart when we were on it and sank in the harbour later that year we sailed her. I remember the creaks and groans. It really was more of a feeling of actually being at sea. The week after we cruised, she repositioned to NYC and a third of the crew dissappeared into oblivion. No wonder the big smiles!

Old ships have a mystery about them. I was on the USS Independence in Hawaii about a year before she left service and she was a true lady. Wonderful woods, brass, tiles. A real treat to see next to the chrome and neon wonders of today's cruise ships.

Listen if od is bad does that mean I have to sell our 1959 Ford Convertible? I love that old car.

In reply to your reference to the Olympia. We sailed the Olympia with our three children and my Mother from NYC in the fall of 1973. She was a great ship because the staff were all Greek. The cabins were tiny(we had three) but the ambience was great as long as you didn't dwell on the few trailer-parkeze. The Greeks especially liked the children and couldn't do enough for them. The food was great, simple and delicious. We were alerted to a Hurricane expected in Nassau and while walking the main sreet we were surprised to see a guy wih a megaphone yelling that all passengers on he Olympia report back to the ship ASAP-they were sailing in one hour. We rode out the Hurricane on the ocean. The waves were coming over the decks and there were ropes tied everywhere to prevent folks from falling overboard.

We arrived back at the NYC dock one day late. For some reason we were one of the first people off. As we walked down the gangplank, a big cheer echoed thru the Pier. I would doubt that the same attitude would be prevalent today.

A question: Is the Regal Empress now the Empress of the Seas? Please advise.

No, Empress of the Seas is RCI's and former Nordic Empress. The Regal Empress still sails from Ft lauderdale under Majesty Criuse Lines but still carries the name of Regal Empress.

You are certainly right about this! Ships are built to last 30 years, so there are no "old" vessels around except QE 2 and a few sailing in Europe. The Marco Polo, sailing on exotic itineraries, is fairly old but she's always full of people who love her. So many ships have been built in the past 10 years, an average of 12 megaliners per year until 2005.

Trust me, there's nothing old about a ship built in the mid 1990's. They have balconies, fitness centers, etc, like the newest vessels afloat. And, every ship goes into dry dock once per year so carpets and worn items can be replaced.

Compared to some of the tubs I've sailed on in the past (i.e., five years ago!), when there were still a few geriatic ladies in service, 99% of the cruise ships sailing are closer to Star Trek's enterprise than a truly old ship.
