I find it so funny when people go hushing other people during the announcements!
Everytime the loadspeaker came on, almost everyone starting shooshing and hushing people. Even strangers that were not talking. It was like a big production! Sadly with all of the hushing going on, I missed 1/2 of the announcements! Never made it to bingo cause of all the hushing........never got to hear what times they were at.
Piece of advice for all the hushers out there, when the announcements come on,
just shut up......mind your own business......people will stop talking...they wanna hear to!
It could be important, like bingo's closed for today. the sauna is out or order, the hairdresser is having a day off......or excuse me,,,,excuse me,,,,this ship is actually sinking, please get off.
Yeah....I agree that it could be important, but you can't hear half of it cause of all the shooshing going on. I do read the newsletters, but as we all know, things do change sometimes. I am sure that people mean well, but it is funny. Don't the realize that polite people will stop talking and don't need to be shoohed?

Re: People hushing people during announcements!
Well, how about the other point of view? If people don't start shushing others, they will talk all over the announcements and then you don't hear ANY of it! <vbg>

To be honest, I'm probably one of the one's that people are shushing at. I never stop talking during the announcements because I never even notice them. Just another piece of background noise that goes in one ear and out the other without ever being registered in the brain. But I've never noticed people shushing at me either. Now I wonder if they were and I just wasn't paying enough attention to notice them. I don't think so, though, because one thing I know I would have noticed is the entire deck going silent around me and I know that has never happened. I think many people, like myself, just ignore the announcements and don't even really hear them when they are occurring.
If you're interested in the day's activities, I think your best bet is to read the newsletter placed in your cabin each day. It's a bit unrealistic to expect the entire ship to go silent because another game of Bingo is being announced.
For those of you who are blanking out all announcements.. i hope there is never a very important message saying the ship is going down or something important like that....... You would be missing it! HAHHAHAHAHAHA just kidding... I have never heard anyone shush anyone else when i was on a ship. But I am too busy listening to the messages. i like to know waht is going on. Sometimes its a reminder that there was something I wanted to be doing.
i just find the announcements annoying. i never even bother trying to listen to them, but i am polite and stop talking for the few seconds it takes to anounce big bucks bingo in case there is anyone who cares. so the moral of this story is to just shut your mouth when the announcements come on, and then no one will have to be shushed and the people who care that a cruise t-shirt is on sale will be happy.
Besides, they make the announcements in like 4 to 8 languages (depending on the ship and itinerary). You should be able to hear something.
And if the ship is really sinking just follow the crew members who are running like hell for the lifeboats (and the 7 LOUD Short Blasts followed by the really long one).
Yes in a way the announcements are annoying ... for me it is not because they happen, it is because I never seem to be able to hear all of it ... be it other cruisers talking during it or there are times I am in my cabin and when I finally realize that there is an announcement happening I am to late to hear it ...
