I agree with Jim, elsewhere, it may be a place for single guys to feast, but somehow on a cruise ship it's just a genuine place for women to tan. I don't even go up there when my wife has been up there......okay, well maybe once or twice........
I think that Crooz (do we know Crooz is a he?) is complaining that women who don't have "perfect" bodies shouldn't be sunbathing topless . I hope he/she doesn't visit certain beaches or other countries that aren't as hung up (no pun intended ) on nudity.
As Jim said, if you don't like what you see, don't go there

Since men can sunbathe topless anywhere they like, how about if the voyeurs give the ladies who are tucked away discreetly on the topless deck. a little privacy to get a little sun without tan lines. It cracks me up... what if the guys had a bottomless deck and the ladies would lurk around and score what we saw. I am sure there would be very few 10's. Its a flippin vacation not a beauty contest.

Crooz is a HE. And Crooz has been to approx 12 beaches in 10 other Countries where folks are either topless or totally nude.
The thing is... that in most (if not all) of these countires, the residents take better care of themselves than do many of the American's you find on Cruise Ships. This is especially true on French or South American beaches.
Agreed that they "don't have to be perfect" to sun in this fashion, but they should at least be respectively close to their proper weight, and have some resemblance of the female form.
I might add that the topless deck is really a great place to relax and read in an uncrowed and quite place. I only got up there with my wife, who will not go topless, but we seek a quite place. What I discovered on the Glory is that the topless deck is forward of the basketball court and on the aft side up a ladder is another deck not designated topless that is great for a nice quite and uncrowded place to read with a nice breeze! Unfortunately for me I did not find this until the last day of the cruise so was unable to take advantage of it. Fortunately the decks were not crowded either so ther were some nice places where we were able to read in quite.
It always amuses me when this " topless " subject pops up, as it does from time to time.
There is not a " topless " deck on Carnival---- there are " tops optional "
decks that are marked as such. It does not say that you have to be topless to be there nor does it say it is closed to any segment of passengers except minors. It is as much a public deck as anyother deck on the ship. It is merely for those who may wish to sunbathe without their top. I agree with Jim totaly that it is a quite place to relax, read, etc. and get away from the throngs around the pools and along with my wife ( who does not go topless ) have spent time there relaxing, reading, etc.
It's only a big deal if you make it a big deal. I really think that women who are not used to sunbathing without a top feel uncomfortable when they do take off the top and feel like everyone is staring at them and as said, are uncomfortable.
As I said before, the tops optional deck is a public deck open to any passengers except minors. If you are uncomfortable without a top and are afraid someone might see ( horrors of horrors ) your boob, then exercise the " tops optional " thing and put the top back on.
Right Ron. I am actually a little uncomfortable if one of the ladies gets uncomfortable being topless. Maybe it is my age but I could care less anymore and in my years as a Paramedic & Police Officer plus all our travels I have probably seen more boobs than a girls gym teacher. Not even worth turning my head for.
Growing up in Europe (military brat), I frequented nude beaches/topless optional beaches most of my life until moving to the States and not living near one. I plan on utilizing the topless deck. I really don't know what all of the fuss is about. I don't think it should matter what size and/or shape and/or age someone is. If there is a man up there alone, and staring or ogling - just be understanding. Maybe he doesn't get to see any in his normal day-to-day life. Feel pity. Stare back at him - but lower. Make a frowning type face when you do it. Make a tsk tsk sound at the same time.
I am very small on top, am in my mid-40's and have had children also, so it's not a sight you'd want pictures of (unless it's a "don't try this at home" sort of picture) - and yet, I've never had a problem with being topless in an appropriate area. Men do it all the time and I have seen plenty of them that are visually offensive, and yet, no one complains. If everyone was taught that "boobs" are just another body part maybe there would be far fewer girls obsessed with changing their size through implants, etc.
Ouch!!!! People pay a lot of money to go on these cruises, and if they would like to go up on the deck that is topless optional they can.I care less if a person get offended by me reading, and people watching. If they feel uncomfortable do not take your top off!!just come up there and read.I care less if a person stares at me,in fact i'm used to it because I am very tall, and hear all those stupid how's the weather up there remarks all the time, and I simply smile and nod.So just because a lot of males go up there to read, and people watch does not mean they have not seen them before....Geeeeeeeeeeeez
Will, I hope you figured out that I couldn't care less if men go up there. I happen to agree with you that people paid good money for their cruise and if there is a topless optional deck available, that anyone should be able to use it within the guidelines of the ship. Most men don't stare anyway. They look. My opinion is "so what!"
CF, I had to laugh at your 'solution' to males staring. I have a friend who was very large on top, we are talking FF on a small frame. Once in the mall we walked out of a store and a male who was with his wife started staring at her boobs. My friend walked over and bent over at the waist and stared at his crotch shaking her head. Man did he turn red and then his wife slapped the heck out of him! I was laughing so hard at this time I had to sit down. She has since had them reduced for health reason to a more managable and better looking C cup.
Let's not make big boobs of ourselves in our responses to this topic.

This thread reminds me of years ago when my husband and I were on a beach where some were topless and others naked. There appeared in the distance a short woman done up in khaki uniform marching along with a group of cubs/scouts behind her. My husband and I really cracked up when she realised what was going on around her, did an abrupt about turn and marched them back the other way!!
There have recently been complaints in the local papers about the beach not being signposted as "nudist" - to my mind, it doesn't take much brainpower to work out whether or not a particular section of beach is right for you and your family! - Live and let live, I say.
If a woman wants to lay topless on an upperdeck of a cruise ship, or on a beach and she is comfortable doing so, then do it. I just think it needs to be posted so that those that do not want to see it or don't want their kids to see it can be forwarned.
I just wish she could do it without people learing at her. Regardless of how old she is, or how big or small, if she wants to do it, let her do it. If someone doesn't like what they see, then they certainly always have the option of not looking. Unfortunatly, not everyone has the self discipline for that.
If a woman lays on the top deck topless it isn't for the tan she wants people to look at her, if she didn't she would lay in her back yard or find a private club. That is like a woman that dresses sexy to go to a club. She wants people to stare at her.
