Fruitcake...Red Alert! Red Alert!...he's giving you his 007 look to disarm and charm you!! Notice the lowered eyes in his photo?...the Tux....the glass of expensive vintage wine, the candles and flowers (ok, so we can't see those things ...but trust me, they're there...hidden from view! I have it on good account from a big, hairy steel worker in drag!)

I think DBG has 3 F's to watch for: Fieldmouse, Fern and Fruitcake!

Fieldmouse: I daresay you are on to something! He's clever, isn't he?

I don't know about everyone else, but that's the main reason I enjoy your posts! No BS! Just tell it like it is (within reason ).

it's kind of expensive, isn't it? To pay the money (assuming the killer is in an inside cabin) to go around, cruise to cruise, island to island to kill people one at a time, when they can do it via blowing up a bridge in NYC or CA....
You know what I think? Granted just my opinion, too much booze, maybe some anger issues or possible horniess and mental issues.... someone did something and tossed someone overboard- you know the person(s) had to be tossed, cause the handrails are pretty high. You can't simply just fall off a cruise ship by yourself... don't want your husband/wife no more? Get them drunk late...walk around with them, then toss their butt overboard- who's to say what happened? No body, no arrest, no court cases... swimming with the fishes, see????

Of course, there maybe someone in the engine room, who feels under paid and under appreciated.... lol. jk....

I do have an odd sense of humor, but it's possible...then someone else thought, hey! What a great idea! Intl waters!!!!!!

Default what a topic!

I know that 24 people have been reported missing from cruise ehips int he last 2-3 years. many have not been found.

Like any place where there are people, crime will happen. Just as you have to watch out for yourself on a land vacation, you also have to watch yourself on a cruise vacation. Those who drink, flick through wads of cash where others can see you, and wonder alone are prone to incident, whether it's their own fault or another passenger/crew member is involved.

Use common sense, don't drink, don't take medication that can make you sleepy, and don't go anywhere alone. Don't leave your kids alone. I'm going on a 4-day Bahamas in late July with my 14 year old son and he'll only be "alone" when he's in the bathroom. I love him enough to smother/protect him (and he knows that). If he wants to hang with other teens, it will be on a public desk where I can hang out nearby and read a book with an eye on him. No teen excursions for him. We'll explore Nassau and Freeport on an excursion together or the beach.

While I am, of course, not familiar with your family and the maturity level of your teen, I think you may be taking the protective mother role a bit far. Such "smothering" can cause resentment and may result in negative behavior. I agree about off the boat excursions, however, teen activities on board are well organized and supervised. If you allow him that it will free your time as well. I do not consider insisting on hanging out close by unreasonable when it is not an organized activity.

Michelle,

I agree with Doug. Relax and have fun on your cruise! You are far safer on a ship than you are wandering the streets of any big city.

For some reason, cruise ships fascinate the general public. And consequently fascinate the news media. Therefore, anytime something unusual happens on a ship (norovirus, accidents, etc) it makes the news -- but when norovirus shuts down the local kiddie daycare, or somebody gets hit by a truck, it doesn't make the news.

It's the same phenomenon that happens with airline accidents. Far more people are killed in auto accidents -- but it's the airline ones that make the news.

So have fun on your cruise! Eat, drink, and be merry! You'll be safe, and you'll have a great time -- I promise!

Dean

Michelle,
Having raised two kids successfully who are now both grown, ditto what doug and Dean said, being overprotective of kids is the single worst thing you can do to them -- but also "Don't drink?" Now that's a little severe, don't you think?

BTW Michelle, considering the number of people who are at sea on cruise ships at any one time (I don't know the figure but it has to be at least 60,000) it is truly remarkable that only 24 have gone missing in three years. You would think that there would be more suicidal and terminally drunk, fall over the rail, cruisers world wide than 24 in that length of time. Of the 24, I doubt if 4 were actual victims of crime.
