Default Steward not Stewart

It is a tiny gripe, just bugs me each time I see it in a post. Not that I am any great speller, just Steward is the postion and Stewart is a guy's name.

I guess Aft cabins, when they mean Cabins on the Stern of the ship is another one.

Hi arwenmark,

I agree with the "Stewart/Steward" thing.

Since most of the cruise lines call cabins in the back of the ship "aft" and the cabins in the front of the ship "forward" instead of bow, I think that's an appropriate term.

Another thing that bugs me is "quest" instead of "guest"!

Also, if you're writing more than a couple of sentences, please make paragraphs! It's very hard for me to read one loooooonnnngggg paragraph! (Doesn't have anything to do with age, does it??? )

This reminds me of a an old t-shirt I had back in the 70's. What it said across the front was "Whale Oil Beef Hooked"

Try saying it with an Irish acccent

Our cabin phone on the Glory actually had "room stewart" on the panel. So maybe our steward was really named Stewart - but I really doubt it.

Thanks pal, pleased you got it.

But please see my point, its all about communication. Right now I'm talking to you on text and not verbally, so barring typo's from me we can talk and understand each other.

But I also appreciate, that some peoples accent does not immediately resound in other peoples ears.... and for some as people they will switch off when someone outside their country speaks, as its too hard to actually listen, or try too, thats my experience when it comes to acccents

"what is this guy saying"....they will now laugh as my accent to them is funny, point missed, lets laugh

"I cannnot understand a word you are saying", they will now laugh again

"can you speak more slowly or change your accent", they will now laugh and in front of me again, as if its my fault, for being someone talking different to their ear and understanding.

How do you or anyone from a continent seen as being that way, address that as a world we have to communicate with each other?

On another note, an aft cabin is just that. Yes it is on the stern but it is still called an aft cabin'

"Aft Cabin" is correct. 'Aft' and 'forward' are directions, not locations, and those words help to describe the space.
Like, "I'm headed aft", not "stern".

When I go to get fitted for my pacemaker, I also want a tracking device installed that will work on all these BIG SHIPS.

I lose at least three days walking corridors, cursing "where the H** am I"

Then I find myself counting cabin numbers to get a direction

So I want that tracker so these big guys through technology, can shout from the nearest "ping pong" speaker at any time, "hey dude take a left and up one to the dining room"

And all based on that our leader Captain Picard, knows exactly where everyone is on the ship and where they want to go.

Or even just one of those wee badges on your chest that you can hit and say, pool, or dining room, and you appear there 8) 8) 8) .

Okay, Carnival Group I will settle for the second choice, its not a lot to ask, think of the cost savings on elevators...

David - I think you might be on to something there bud - a tracking device should be mandatory for all husbands :o)

When Hugh had his stents put in I wanted have asked for the "tracking module" but I didn't see where to check it off on the permission "slip".

Imagine a wife being able to account for her hubby 24/7 lol.

Women have it a bit easier when it comes to directions - we ask!!!!

Baring that we can make our way by in-born fculties - to the nearest shopping venue - tee-hee.

Yeah I know women can multi task..

Have a child and at the same time ask their husband, is the house clean and tidy for visitors when I get out here, and then write you a shopping list for snacks, for said visitors....and at the same time keep pushing !!

Incredible skill, but they still cant park a car or read a map.... 8) 8)

What do you mean HUH…you explain and before you do.What I was SAYING is these words are TYPED, so no accent involved.

You can read them at your own pace.

Written so that you don’t miss the message, due to your ear not listening to others accents. That’s what people. especially Americans do, they switch off, do not try to listen, as the other person has a "strange" accent. And they put the person down for it, a different accent, and its funny.

COMMUNICATION STOPS

So now you can read the words, stop.... let it sink in and type if you want. No vocal chords required, just some grey matter apart for HUH

And PS its a tie for the most arrogant or non receptive between the English (and I mean English, not British) and the Americans on this.

Actually I agree with you, the HUH was a little humor such as the Geico commercial if you've seen that one.

Hey, not all Americans tune out an accent. I am very well traveled, being a USNavy vet, and I have learned to distinguish between the different accents and have no problem understaning any but the heaviest of them. As you cast dispersions on Americans, keep in mind there are plenty of unfair and untrue "truisms" about other nationalities. I try to judge by the person, not the nationality.

I can smell the mothballs on this one ... though not as old as some others that were resurrected recently.

I've seen this topic on a number of boards ... but it never seems to have much effect.

People still write "stewart."
