Default I Have A New Gripe

Yesterday I was reading a thread about a ship that was very heavily infected with the Norovirus. It sounded very serious, with up to a thousand on board, including a hundred or more of the staff infected. They were 5 days into a transatlantic cruise, and the person reporting was on board. This thread went on for several pages. It was not until someone pointed it out, that I discovered that the thread was 3 years old.

Now I am all for pulling posts from the past forward, but do you not think that some sort of warning should have been given, to let people know that it was old?

I am not in the habit of looking at dates, but I guess I should be.

What do you think?

Maybe threads older than 6 months could be locked??

Then you can still read about things but have to post a new topic if you want to discuss the same issue

that would be a good idea but I think maybe the threads older than a year should be locked; some 6 month old threads still may have active and ongoing posts...

sorry I should have said inactive threads but 1 yr is good also
I agree with Luanne ...I was caught a couple of times with someone posting then realized it was a 4 yr old thread.

Hi Lu, well maybe you and the CM "crew" now understand why I went so mental towards someone a month or so back (who is actually a very nice person, I have found 8) ) , when seeing the dragging up and repositioning of posts that were up to 7 years old.

As I have previously said, if you want to do the "dragging up thing", then do it for a real reason. IE the hygiene levels after X years are still the same today or have got even worse, so be aware as this problem still exists.

Or this was a problem then, but it no longer exists…..why??? Because of the safe guards the ships have introduced since then, and it no longer exists, feel safe.

Thats the only reasons why such things should be dragged up.

YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Wonderful idea, Luanne!
I am with you -- I sometimes read the subject of a thread, open it, dive in, start reading through it and realize I don't recognize names of posters. And then I realize it's a real old post, before my time, years old.

While some issues are always going to be gripes -- chair hogs, etc. etc. -- others are dated and of no benefit.

And as you said, the threads can be locked -- but whatever educational value they have to a reader will be retained and they will be available.

Well, what do the powers that be say???

I disagree. If there is a thread, for example on cruising to Asia, that was written two years ago; and I am now going to Asia this year, why should a second thread be generated for me to follow up on the OP's question or comment. This is especially true for reviews on a ship or port wherein the OP will be more likely to read update's to his/her thread than a new thread.

It really isn't hard to notice the date on the top of the thread.

Please do not misunderstand my complaint. This was a thread about a ship, in the med, on it's way here, with a ship full of sick people. One reported that two people had already died, and the gym/spa area had been turned into a make shift hospital. I was worried about all these people. I was prayerful for their safety. The CDC was en route to board the ship. It as several pages long, and when I finally got to the end, someone had brought it back to the front to ask how often this happened.

Old thread with good info is very important. Many people have come before us with good info. There is nothing wrong with reading this info.

If there was a thread that said that New York had been bombed, would you not think that it was now going on, with people with first hand knowledge telling what was going on? It's the same thing.

I was wrong to not trust the thread to being up to date. I should have been a non believer until I could find out when, where , how.

I will be a non believer from now own.

I think some of the older threads still have valuable information on them.

Information is only as good as to when it happened, and is still relevant today. If not, it can unfortunately become mis-information and thats so easy on the internet.

As a person, would I take a criteque of a ship today as gospel when the last time it was updated or contributed to was three years, dont think so.

Its old info, bottom line....a perception of that moment in time or experience. Things change

Yes, things change and ships get refurbished. I don't like seeing old threads resurrected. This is the only site I see that happening. I visit many.

All of the posts have dates listed on them so we can check them before we get excited!

I know they do Lou, but it is not usually a concern, or habit to do so. You expect " Late Breaking News" to be current.

I am sure it was "Late Breaking News" 3 years earlier!
I understand!

Hi Luanne, so we agree that this did not appear on "gripes", but did it happen or occur eleswhere on CM? 8)

If so, then people want to start looking at dates, as apart from "chit chat" or one or two others, things can stay at the top of the list on threads for a very long time as they never got answered, until that moment.

But digging into threads for a reaction, thats a differnet story

I checked this morning and the thread has disappeared all together. I guess I was not the only one complaining. It really was sad to put caring people through that.

Lock them but don't delete them, at least not at just one year. I like to peruse the older posts and see what others have to say from way back when. Maybe delete anything more than 3 or 5 years, then it is no longer as pertinent. Just my two bits.
