There are great teens out there that are not drinking, grinding, smoking, in trouble with the law etc. There are the good ones and the bad ones. Same as in the adults.

As long as my kids are going down the right path I'm not worried about the "bad" teens and adults in the world. There were bad teens and adults back in the years, there are bad teens and adults now and they will be around in the future too.

But back to the original topic of the OP of teens and grinding on the ship.... I have only been on 10 cruises but I have yet to see teens grinding. However maybe it is just not happening on the weeks that I have cruised or maybe it is happening in the teen disco where I would not see it. And like OP mentioned in the hot tub??? Please no teen or adult grinders in the hot tub.

Since I like to keep upto date on the music world I will sometimes watch MTV and I love Youtube there are really some funny videos in there.

On the relatively few cruises we've been on we have indeed seen this behavior.

I am of the thinking that if they want to do these things they need to also have the understanding that they chose to do these things and they alone shall suffer the consequences.

I WILL NOT mortgage my home for my child (except of course in the area of their health). They will stay in jail and pay any and all expenses on their own.

And with all these "janitor, elevator" etc clubs in their sigs....who among them wants to be in the STD club?

And someone who says parents are crappy today is pretty ignorant because my parents are very good, they are strict and well informed about what's going on today.

Now just because I have strict parents and have their values and beliefs imprinted in my brain, doesn't mean I'm not going to make my own choices and do something like drink alcohol or dance the more popular ways, however sexual the dancing is, because its still fun. Anyways, a teen does on a cruise what they and others do in regular life, but they are confined in a smaller areas and are constantly around adults, some who are doing the same things.

Just giving another opinion from the teen side.

btw, i must have been looking at the wrong post, but I don't agree with the post before me.
I think you are the kettle calling the pot black. To call me "ignorant" is beyond disrespectful. I never targeted your parents or anyone elses. I never targeted any specific young people. I think I added "as a whole" in order to emphasize the generalization of the statement. Now, if you feel that it targeted your parents, well. . . there must be a reason.

The things that used to only plague "inner city/lower income households" or "those other people" has invaded the suburbs and the affluent communities with a vengence. Parents, who 20 years ago would have never seen the inside of a jail or courthouse, are now having to mortgage their entire life in order to save their child from some reckless endeavor.

The old nuturing communities are gone. The nosy old biddy on the corner who would watch out for the youngsters and rat them out if they did wrong is gone. Grandma living 15 minutes away is no longer. Instead, the young has MTV, YouTube and MySpace to keep them company in the afternoon while mom and dad work.

In my day (60-70's), a fistfight in school resulted in maybe a few days of suspension. Nowadays, a fistfight in school results in either handcuffs and a trip to the pokey or a gunfight in the schoolyard to settle the score.

I am a parent. My son is in grad school. All of his expenses are being financed by a major research organization that is hoping he comes aboard after he gets his MBA. He is on the path to extreme prosperity and success. However, it has not always been a day at the beach. Again, I am a parent and I also have a lot of friends and see the things that we parents are put through by our young and I also see the things that we as parents put our children through. No one particular parent or child is now being or ever was targeted by my general comments. In fact, I include myself and my child in the groups that I refer.

Now if you are a good kid (whatever that means) then I am sure you don't have to look far for the kids that are not "good." If you are a good parent and have had success in raising your young, how far do you have to look in your circle of friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. to find parents who are (a) being emotionally, financially and sometimes physically tortured by their children thru no fault of the parent or (b) parents that are so self-absorbed that they do not see the damage that they are doing to their kids.

But, . . . for those that believe they have to single themselves out and say, "not me, not mine," I say congrats but have to wonder why and say hmmmm. And, if you can't read an opinion of someone's without internalizing it, perhaps that is some of the "all about me" that I speak.

These are different times. It is not any one group's fault. It just is what it is.

Finally, this is a good discussion with many views. Please try to disagree politely and refrain from disrespectful titles.

Excuse Me????? You may need glasses, because nowhere in my post did I mention the name IBCruzin. Also, you are not the only person in this thread to say something about how parents are not doing their jobs, or something like that. I used my parents as an example.

Who's doing some of that "all about me" speach now?

Excuse me Phil&Liz but our little signs are our own little thing.

"""And with all these "janitor, elevator" etc clubs in their sigs....who among them wants to be in the STD club? """

Why should we have to explain them to you. They are harmless though. The Janitors club which I am a part of means that I am up at all hours of the night posting on cruisemates for teens. Now I dont exactly understand why you would even care. But I am 17 years old never had sex and not going to until I get married. Now any more little put downs because of our little clubs???

& T_Money93 thanks for the other teens point of view.

Some people here best remember how to carry on a discussion and keep it on topic, and in the manner of a reasonable debate. That's acceptable.

Telling other people what they are, or aren't... and snide snippets to end otherwise possibly usefull posts just end up getting the posts deleted.

There can be some uselful exchanges here, but when you start judging others and making personal comments, you end any usefullness this thread might have had. You also violate the CruiseMates Terms of Service, and continually doing so will result in you no longer being allowed to participate at all.

Back on topic.. in close to 60 cruises on many lines, with several of them holiday sailings with 1000 kids onboard, I've very rarely seen "teens" and youngsters acting any differently than the larger percentage of adults onboard.

Inappropriate behavior does take place everywhere at some time. If you notice what might get out of hand, report it to security. But, frankly, I think the times where that becomes necessary are few and far between.

I'm 58, but still remember what we did for fun when I was in my teens... and I don't think that's actually changed that much for teens today.

The norm remains the norm. The times problems actually arise are more anecdotal than the norm.

To be honest, I don't think I have ever seen the younger set do anything inappropriate. There was one situation on a cruise where two teen girls were standing around waiting for the dining room to open. They broke out in some vulgar rap song and proceeded to sing it very loud. The sad thing was their mother and grandmother was standing right there with them and said nothing to them. The song was a cuss word every 3 word or so.

Finally, I turned to the two young ladies and quietly said to them, "You two are so pretty. Why would you want to sing such an ugly song. Don't sing that mess. You are way too pretty to sing that song." They blushed and immediately cut the song. The grandma and mom looked at me like they wanted to say something smart to me. I gave them my best, "Don't even try it" look.

Other than that, I only have 2nd and 3rd hand reports on what teens do and do not do on these ships. I am a night owl and am up and about all hours of the night on my cruises. I see the teens but have never seen them do anything shameful. For the most part, they are at the pizza counter or on the sofas in front of the dance club just hanging and just being.

I have also never seen with my eyes any intimate behavior by adults so either I am blind, oblivious or just lucky.

P.S. There is no reason to end this thread. It is going fine.

Personally I have been on some cruises and didnt enjoy being in the teen club because of the way the teens attitudes were. but as far as them doing anything bad its nowhere near common. And like some of the adults on this thread has stood up for the teens saying that they havent seen anything out of hand. and i do agree with if you do catch something that is so severe do report it. but not something minor. because then it ruins our vacations. there has been one cruise where there were these 2 teens getting it on in the arcade under some table but the adult in there stopped them (crew member) let them handle it. this is a great thread. i like it. but when its all adults agaist a couple of teens haha we get out numbered quickly.

I thought i would through in my thoughts. As an 18 year old i can see both sides very clearly. i have been on four cruises i was 13-17 on the last three. and i have seen my fellow teens making out or hooking up, also i have seen some grinding. i have participated in grinding not only on cruises but at my high school dances. it is how we dance, i have to admit i dont get as into it as others, but it is the dance of our generation. in the past other dances have been considered bad taste. Elvis comes to mind. i would like to point out that i have never made out on a cruise ship (to be honest i have never even been kissed, which is a personal choice). i have to agree with the adults that teenagers need to have a little respect for themselves and otehrs to keep their hooking up private and not make others uncomfortable. However i have never seen teens hooking up out in the open in front of like families like that. i have however seen teens throw lawn chairs off the back of the ship. i yelled at them tried to stop them and cried. sometimes my peers dissapoint me too, and that is a shame. thanks for listening!

However i have never seen teens hooking up out in the open in front of like families like that. i have however seen teens throw lawn chairs off the back of the ship. i yelled at them tried to stop them and cried. sometimes my peers dissapoint me too, and that is a shame. thanks for listening!

thank you for that input because that too is a big part of this conversation. grinding is the dance of this generation. and nothing is going to change that. but i begin to wonder what its going to be like in like 20 years... but i have kissed b4 and made out on a ship and that was just once because i thought the guy was really hott. haha. and that was on the last night. never seen or talked to him again.

Another word from a teen: I'm 17 and have cruised many times (in excess of 80 now) and I'm no angel by any stretch of the imagination. I enjoy cruising and enjoy it more when I meet someone who I share common interests with and occasionally that can lead to cruise ship romance or as many call it "hooking up". I was taught that there is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. Grinding and dancing is a common part of teen culture these days but it should be kept to its respective areas just as adult activities (drinking, gambling) are kept to their own. As for making out and whatnot in the hottubs, its just not appropriate. Everyone has, will or has dreamed of having that perfect kiss on the cruise ship and I don't see anything wrong with kissing/making out with someone you like and respect, but doing it in public not only lessens its value but in many cases is just gross.

I am so glad to hear from so many young people. I have a question. . . .

How old is too old to do the grinding dance?

Hahaha!!!

You kids are o.k. I would like to think that when you guys group up and pal up on the ships, you all kind of police each other. No one person has all the right decisions all the time. If you guys have fun and look out for each other, nothing bad can ever be said.

I have but one request. . . .

Can all of you young men please pull your pants up? It is driving me crazy. And tie your sneakers!!

i think too old would be above 30. but thats my opinion because i wouldnt wanna see some really old people (no offense) trying to do what teens are doing. i would be kinda grossed out. thats why i dont wanna turn 18. and i personally like clean cut guys that dont act like thugs. i want a gentleman. and if i have to wait 10 years i will.
