On our recent Jewel cruise a passenger was injured when they tripped over a life jacket strap that another passenger was dragging after the muster drill.
I have seen this MANY times after the muster drill and I have also seen people trip on them but this is the first time I had seen someone hurt when they tripped on the stairs.
On a few ships the CD or whoever conducts the muster drill requests that passengers not let the straps drag behind them.
I can't understand why people can't just leave the dang life jacket on for the the few minutes until they get back to their cabin or take the one minute to wrap up the strap. I guess they need to just drag it like a pull toy and reenact their childhood, pull toy dreams.
Take care and pull in that strap.

I agree Mike. I have politely mentioned to many people that their straps were dragging and could cause someone to trip. There is no way I could wear mine back to our cabin up 5 or more decks with everyone pushing and shoving, too awkward.

"So they hit the water and straps still not properly tied means, there’s a very good chance it will just come up over your head and float away, and then they drown."
Well that evolution at work. "I can't understand why people can't just leave the dang life jacket on for the few minutes until they get back to their cabin."Sorry this isn't happening with me. "or take the one minute to wrap up the strap".
I will wrap the strap for the safety of others. However, I'm short and my chest causes the life jacket to not sit right so the dang thing is up around my head. I would take a header down the stairs if I tried to wear the jacket and walk.

For as long s there has been people there have been some who , for what ever reason, won't or don't do common sense things.
I don't think I have ever been to a muster drill that the crew didn't mention to people to not let the straps drag as they were a safety hazard. But, there's always a few that are always talking so they don't even hear the drill speech anyway so there it goes. Common sense would tell you that carrying something with a long strap dragging the floor in a crowd of people isn't good but--there's always the few.
If some people's shoe laces were 4 feet long they would still walk around with them untied.
Someone once said " that common sense is an uncommon thing "--
go out in a crowd and see for yourself.
Presumably, these are also the same people who are told repeatedly to WEAR their life jacket to the drill. Instead, they are too cool to look trussed up like a moron (like the rest of us) and have said lifejacket draped over one arm.......probably dragging the straps at this point too. Or there is the loud-mouthed boob who insists he has been on many cruises and doesn't need to participate at all. One actually told us he was going to hide in his shower to avoid muster. Idiot!
