Towel animals

I am about to go on my 7th cruise and I have been reading a lot of reviews about my cruise line and ship. I am fed up with cruisers gripping about not having towel animals every night. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! I think the towel animals are a nice touch, but it not protocol. STOP COMPLAINING!!!!! Sorry I just had to get that off my chest. I read one too many reviews complaining about towel animals.

Ron November 12th, 2008 12:13 AM

A cruise without a towel animal on your bed and a mint upon your pillow is like a cruise without ----???

ScurvyDog November 12th, 2008 09:28 AM

I saw a new one that I had never seen on the NCL Jewel. It was a Mouse. Made from a washcloth it was peeking from under the pillow with two pink eyes.

momofmeg November 12th, 2008 10:38 AM

Celebrity and Princess does not do them but I still enjoyedmy cruises on those two lines. I think the animals are "cute" but absolutley NOT necessary.

TravelBugs November 12th, 2008 10:52 AM

This is the cruise gripes section...so glad you were able to vent. :)

Now get out there and enjoy that 7th Cruise!!!! LOL

katlady November 12th, 2008 11:16 AM

Nope, it's not a cruise if I don't have towel animals. It is one of the things that makes a cruise special and unique. If we give up towel animals. what's next lobster in the dining room? You are right Celebrity doesn't have towel animals and that is one of the reasons we won't be cruising Celebrity.

bgsimp November 12th, 2008 11:55 AM

Sorry, I also have to have my little towel animals. I pick them up off my bed and lay them ever so gently on the couch so they can have a good nights rest before the cabin steward comes in the next day and
RIPS THEM APART !!! rofl rofl

Bentnail November 12th, 2008 11:18 PM

Scurvydog

The mouse was a new one for us as well but the best was the monkey hanging off the ceiling. As you enter the room there he is swinging above the bed. Thats the best we have had. rofl

Katlady, Celebrity is so nice, you are treated like a queen on that line- you are welcomed with a drink, escorted to your stateroom- even if you are in the lowliest inside! and it doesn't stop-anytime you eat in the Lido, your tray is carried for you, the food is superb, almost as good as their pay extra restaurant- I find the food on Celebrity better than any of the other lines I have been on. Plus Celebrity has plenty of stuff going on until around 1 am. Celebrity is very nice. I also like the nice little touches like your steward keeping you with a pitcher of ice water and the ice never melting-as he refills it both morning and evening.

Now I admit I enjoyed Carnival 10 years ago-it is just- that is not what I am looking for in a cruise anymore. Not that I am not bothered by the party atmosphere. I go to sleep around midnight and I have never had anyone wake me up by being loud, so I am not bothered by that. It is just the nice touches that Celebrity has that I prefer, and they have enough entertainment to satisfy me. However, someone who wanted to pull an all nighter would be disapointed in Celebrity.

I am not so sure I will like NCL much either-but we needed to cruise Thanksgiving week because of my daughter's job- and the price is what realed me in on that cruise! for the price I paid- I would have cruised ANY line-and who knows- NCL may be my next favorite line.

I would also do a Carnival cruise again-but only if the price is right-if I am paying regular fare, I want to go Celebrity or HAL. At the regular prices-you usually pay less than $100 per person extra for Celebrity or HAL over Carnival.

so far I have been on six lines, this is how I rate them.

Celebrity
HAL
Princess
Disney
Carnival
RCI

Who knows where NCL will fit in on that list? LOL!

the lack of towel animals actually making anyone abandon a cruise line? are we really serious here? omg, how competitive is the cruise industry these days? my towels are better than your towels. you would think there were no larger issues in this world!!! heaven help us all.

DayvidB November 13th, 2008 03:40 PM

As someone who spends most of their time, money and effort working for animal charities.

I dont agree with the manipulation of turning towels into animals, these towel breeders need to be taken to task.

So they create an animal, and leave it  , dump it on a bed with the new adopting family out for the night, in the casino, at a show, in a bar or whatever.

Thats not fair, the owner should be at least paged to let them know they now have a new member of the family on their bed 8)

I just pray they dont go for the cross breeding scenario, bath towel and hand towel together on your bed. That has the potential to be like having a new Pit Bull to come home to. This has got to be controlled

hombre November 13th, 2008 03:51 PM

davydb: how ridiculous. but i suppose there is a bit of cynical humor here. to wit: your post is no more off the wall than those claiming no towel animals, no cruise. i am coming to appreciate your sense of humor, though methinks it is not an american humor, every day. good on ya.

DayvidB November 13th, 2008 03:55 PM

Eh, yes you caught me out, I'm not American and I have a naughty side and an off the wall sense of humour. I'm Scottish

hombre November 13th, 2008 03:56 PM

and bentnail, are you SURE there was really a monkey hanging from your ceiling? yeah, sure, a few too many in the casino after the show? yeah, hanging monkey. with sunglasses? uhhuh.

my lord, they used to call them pink elephants.

OMG !!!! Are your towels really better than mine ? That can't be true !!! rofl

but it is, blanche, it is!!! loosely quoted from 'a streetcar named desire.

hombre November 13th, 2008 04:20 PM

and davydb, i also have scottish ancestry. maybe it runs in the genes. my sense of humor gets me in trouble even here.

reverendjeff November 13th, 2008 05:07 PM

dayvid, with our new president here in the U.S. anything may be possible. Towel animal lovers beware! I think I read where he is going to overthrow the ban on string cell research. If that is the case, the cruiselines will not be able to be stopped in their efforts to create all types of towel animals that were never meant to be on this earth.

Wait a minute..... Stem cell? Not String cell? My Bad

Yep we have had monkeys several times, on Carnival, RCI, and HAL. Hilarious, our Carnival steward also used hubby's sunglasses! On the RCI cruise, the stewardess grabbed my reading glasses-I guess hubby had his sunglasses put away LOL! But on HAL they found hubby's sunglasses again!

Our HAL steward also used bits of paper that had sticky on it for the other animal's eyes.

misguidedangel November 13th, 2008 09:37 PM

I loved my towel animals. Sadly, on my last cruise I got five towel animals on a seven night cruise (none on first night or last night). My cruise was wonderful anyhow!

I look forward to my towel animal, I rush back to the cabin after dinner to go see what she made! I got three animals that had the same body, but I didn't care, they were cute!!!!!!

The best ones we got were when we took my 11 year old niece and the cabin steward was so nice she made two for us each night--one big gone and one little one!!!!!

Ron November 13th, 2008 11:06 PM

Careful --the towel dogs have been known to hump on a leg or two--
have to watch the devils !!

See everyone's cruising experience is different. I hated Celebrity. It started out okay they welcomed me with a drink and escorted me to my stateroom. However, never once did they carry my tray in Lido, the buffet food was terrible. What surprised me the most as how bad the dining room food was; who messes up Prime Rib??? The shrimp was horrible (chewy and overcooked). Celebrity didn't have very many fun activities. Mainly they try to sell us teeth whitening on board. The ship was never clean. They didn't vacuum enough and there were empty wrappers everywhere.

The best thing about that cruise was the wait staff in the dining room and the main shows. However, my experience may not be normal. They could of had a bad 12 days. Based on this experience, plus no towel animals we won't cruise Celebrity again. My hubby agrees.

My next crusie is on NCL and I understand they have towel animals-LOL! I also keep hearing their food is terrible unless you go to Cagneys or le Bistro. I won't let it bother me! I honestly can't believe food could be worse than it was on RCI Mariner of the seas-now th ebuffet was good-itr was the main dinningroom that was terrible on that ship. The Caribbean princess was a little betterin the main dinnngroom, the buffet was awful. However, on the original Pacific Princess the food was GREAT. Of my four Carnival cruises, three had great food, one did't-the Carnival Inspiration.

Both of my Celebrity cruises had good food in both the dinngroom and the buffet areas and I had a porterhouse to die for on the Zenith in the main dinngroom, (no pay extra on that ship) as good as the filet mignons I have had in the pay extra dinningrooms on other ships.

HAL had great food too, although it seems to stay more to "regular fare" and not so much on the exotic.

Katlady, thats not the Celebrity I know and love,,,see folks opinion is just that..opinion. And sometimes ones opinion is not others reality, thats gripes

hombre November 14th, 2008 05:42 PM

the towel animals do seem to 'tip the balance', don't they. food ok plus animals equals sail with them again. average food plus no animals means forget it. boy, is this marketing. actually, those sticky eyes on the towel animals tend to stick to me and i don't like them. so, i guess, sticky eyes plus average food once or twice in the lido, or just once in the dining room will be the end of my relationship with hal. how fragile it all seems to be.

See and I had always heard great things about Celebrity. We were on the Infinity out of San Francisico May 06. The pay restuarant was wonderful, it makes you wonder if they did that on purpose so people would go to the pay restuarant. :-?

Towell animals NOT FOOD

This post was about towel animals and how I can't believe people gripe about not getting them every night. If you want to talk about bad food then find a food post. Stop piggy backing on my post. Dang it, I need a vacation!!!!!! Thank GOD it is 7 days away.

My goodness, of all the things to worry about, why worry about TOWEL ANIMALS? LOL If people are bothered by this so much they should bring their own! LOL
