Default People who forget their manners on the boards.

Okay, assuming all the standard disclaimers....I'm starting to get irritated at people who post ignorant responses. Is it that they forget that there is another human being reading the posts on the internet? Why is it that some people jump into boards where they never post and they think it's okay to pick apart someone's spelling or expressions? As far as I'm concerned if you're on any board other than the gripes board you should have to play nice. I just feel like responding "HEY, If you want to be an a$$ then go to one of the other cruise sites where you'll have lots of company." Unfortunately, my manners still work even on the internet so I'll just have to come to the gripes board, vent for a few seconds and then go back to the real world where my conscience controls my keyboard.

Seems like you are criticising people who criticise people.

Absolutely, guilty as charged : ), but I did it in the right place without demeaning or insulting anyone in particular. Anyone that comes to the gripes has to have a thick skin...now that I think about it, the people that have irritated me recently probably wont' come here. Now that is funny! At least I got it off my chest, instead of saying something I'd regret later!

Really, I think this is the nicest cruise message board. You should read some of the others. Lots of flaming and rudeness. I don't see it on this site. That's why I'll stick with this site.

We all need to vent sometimes in life. That is what the gripe boards are all about. The problem with the internet if you can't pick up on non verbal cues. If I post something to be funny, but you don't hear my voice tone or see my smile you may not know I'm kidding. Also some people like a lively debate and will disagree with you just to see what happens. However, personal attacks on not allow on this site and these threads or comments normally get deleted.

dear op: if your conscience controls your keyboard at other times, why not here? yes, i have been insulted on cm boards, but very, very rarely; and i probably deserved it, maybe. and i'll admit i have flung back some rather cynical stuff; but, hey, as someone said we can't see each other or get into body language here. words and gestures cannot be separated. peace, and cruise on.

and, op, i must ask for a reply: just what do you consider an 'ignorant response?' someone being misinformed? or asking for information? or merely voicing a misconception? hey, this is the way we all learn.

My conscience controls my keyboard even here on the gripes board. I guess what I was meaning is that here on the gripes board I wouldn't hesitate to use sarcasm in the right situation, where on the other sections, I would stick to polite facts when people ask for information and I'd keep conversation fairly congenial. That's not to say that I'm a yes man or that I can't handle conflict, as a rule, you don't end up working with the law if you can't argue a point even when it's going to offend someone. I work with tax law and rest assured the jokes are bad enough when you're a lawyer, but when you're the taxman for the government you're really hated.

I personally see no benefit from inflaming situations by failing to use your manner. People can get the same point across even when they disagree by saying it nicely.

The internet's distinct disadvantage is that there is no body language, this is why I think people need to be extra careful of how they say things. I don't think that for the most part people intend to be offensive but boy there are days when it seems like some folks are just looking to pick a fight and this otherwise nice cruise addicted family board becomes hateful and a lot less fun to read.

Just my thoughts, that I posted here on gripes, because this is where you come to post things that irritate the crap out of you : ) Thank goodness for the gripes board!

I wouldn't have drawn this gripe as far down to this but since you asked for a response, I'll venture in and probably end up regretting it afterwards but oh, well....I have no issue with people being misinformed or misunderstanding the OP question but take this particular quote from the MSC board:

"your post is sad, indeed. don't they teach you how to write and spell these days -- guess not. wat kin isa??"

This post was in response to a young kid who had posted on an MSC thread about his recent cruise experience. He used "computer slang" that drives me crazy, but absolutely nothing was gained by a poster responding with an insult about his spelling. All that did was make a legitimate poster (a kid, but a cruiser none the less) respond very defensively and sarcastically and the whole thread to a nosedive. That was a comment which I would consider ignornant. That's the type of comment I'd expect on the other boards but in 4 years of faithful cruisemates reading, I'll admit I've been pampered by fluff and friendliness and it honestly shocked me and while I'm being honest, it irritated the crap out of me.

And I agree with you wholeheartedly, we all learn from misinformation or mistakes that we make.

I couldn't agree with you more. I've long since given up on the other boards and I come here a few times a day to catch up and share the addiction with fellow addicts and to get a little happy fix. Some of the other boards are down right nasty. This is definitely the cream of the crop. Even the guys (and gals) with the reputations of being hard to get along with on here, have trouble hiding that they really are just good folks having a good time. When times are tough, the best in all shines. That can't be said about some of the other boards.

Just an FYI, if ever you see a post that you "think" has crossed the line and a violation of our terms of posting, just report it. Someone will check it out and if they post is a violation, it will be delt with.

Thank you Donna. Will do this in the future. I didn't want to be a trouble maker, I just thought the reminder that a human being is reading could be used by some people and the vent allowed me to get it out of my system. Plus, I wasn't really sure if I was just being too sensitive, but I knew if I posted on the gripes and they told me to get a life, I would just adjust my sensitivies a bit

Some people on these boards define any poster who disagrees with their sacred opionion as being rude and ignorant.

"The internet's distinct disadvantage is that there is no body language"

AND the fact thats it NOT REAL and not life,,,people act different on things like this, dont take it personal.

But I will go with the lack of "body language" as to why I can wind folks up

You are just gumpy up there in the snow. You guys get tempatures in the 20s and lower.; Sounds just awful. Don't worry your power will go out soon and you won't be bored anymore. Wearing sunglasses in sunny California. 8)
