Default A gripe heard.

I have read on here gripes about folks over-indulgding at the buffet. Two weeks ago on a Carnival ship I noticed what I think may be a response. At breakfast all the tongs face the passengers except the ones for the bacon. The crew served you the bacon. Not sure if this saves waste or waist, but it was the first time I had seen this.

Just got off the Fascination yesterday and I noticed them doing the exact same thing. Maybe it's the latest Carnival cost saving idea.

It's probably my fault. I hate undercooked, limp bacon and pick through looking for some that might be crispy in spots. So, they know I'm coming back and are taking my tongs away. Aaaargh!

Maybe they will now be able to hand out the lapel pins again!

On Holland America's Westerdam this past January, everything was served for you at the buffet except desserts and bread pudding. I hated it and the lines were long!

It is a cost cutting measure. Bacon is probably the most wasted of all items. I personally agree with this one. I've seen people grab multiple tong fulls at a time and not eat half of it.

Take care,
Mike

With me, it is not wasted. All I want is the tiny crispy bits at the bottom of the pan. Guess I'll just have to use my fingers.

Mike, overcoming the logistical challenges of grabbing multiple tong fulls at a time - particularly with a plate in one hand - suggests that anyone that can achieve such a feat deserves as much bacon as they can grab.

Both of these issues have been addressed on John Helads blog many weeks ago.

There did seem to be what they call "wastage" with the buffet food. One need only request additional bacon and it wil be given.

The pins are a work in progress. They will be given to Platinum cruisers and available in the gift shop for everyone else.

John is still campaigning to get the pins back as a gift to everyone, not just the platinum.

I have also noted on HAL that they serve you. But, looking at it another way... is it not best that only one hand touches serving utensils in this era of H1N1 flu virus?

It really doesn't matter to me about the bacon or the pins, I just found it humorous.
Now the dangerous part and where Carnival may be facing a major lawsuit is the dinner buffet. They now have the melting cake back there and it is help yourself. Someone is going to hurt themself and it won't be pretty.
I can see a scenario where a person takes four or five of those babies back to the cabin, devours them and throws themself off the balcony.

Looks like the culprit might be undercooked bacon...I love the crispy parts myself and hate chewy, raw bacon. I have seen passenger's plates with a literal mountain of bacon and sausage on them and sadly, they were left on the table with maybe 1/4 of the portion eaten. When you eat in the formal dining room for breakfast, you can ask for your bacon well done.

They used to give tie tack style pins with the name of the ship on it to all passengers. Not something I care about, but some people collect them. Now, if they had a "I WANT MY BACON CRISP" pin, I would pay extra for it.
