I got back from a VIKING BURGUNDY cruise on the Saone and the Rhone on Saturaday, Oct. 25. (It was the last "French Vineyards & Vistas" cruise of the season.) The ship was comfortable and impeccably clean, the crew was wonderful, the food was outstanding (4- to 5-star quality), and all in all, it was a great trip.
BTW, after I got home, I learned that Viking was in CONDE NAST TRAVELER's list of the top 10 small-ship cruise lines (based on CNT's reader poll). It certainly appears to be a well-run operation based on my experience.
One interesting item: We tied up next to the VIKING RHONE one evening. That ship is the VIKING BURGUNDY's sister ship, and it caters to a European (apparently heavily German) audience. A few of our passengers went on board and reported that the VIKING RHONE reeked of cigarette smoke because of a more liberal smoking policy than that on our American-oriented ship (where smoking was allowed only on the open decks).
