Default Euopean Adventure - Viking

Hello Everyone

My wife and I have booked on Viking's European Adventure from Amsterdam to Viena on
May 27, 2004 on the Spirit.

There appear to be two distienct groups: "I loved it", and "these people are thieves", depending on the water levels. Hopefully we will be in the first group.

If anyone is booked on the same cruise, contact me - it might be fun to chat prior to the cruise, and have new friends to meet.

Hi Dennis,
My husband, Dick, and I are going on the same cruise. We're going over on 5/23 with the pre-cruise option. We live in Phoenix, AZ and are really looking forward to this trip. I've been reading all the reviews re low water levels and was getting worried too but I think the time of year we go is a big factor. Hopefully river levels are being replenished with rain & snow melt as I type this.
We'll be happy to keep in touch & look forward to meeting you two.
Linda

Hello Linda,
I e-mailed you directly, but didn't get a response yet, so I'll post some of the information here.

Some of the information that I've been able to gather:
1) The Spirit apparently draws 150 cm. I expect that this is an absolute minimum,
and a buffer is desirable
2) Web sites reporting water levels:

http://www.wetteronline.de/pegel/pegelkarte.htm
http://www.hnd.bayern.de/
http://www.canoe-dreams.com/english/levels.php3
http://www.datanet.hu/hydroinfo/vituki/info/eindex.htm
http://www.noel.gv.at/service/wa/wa5/htm/wnd_karte.htm
http://www.ooe.gv.at/hydro/seite_ooe.htm

I spent some time at the first site listed above, being confused by the color bars. It turns out that Europeans do not assign the values of red = bad, green = good as in the US.

If you click on a river name, such as Donau, a list of cities along the river is presented with information from the last measurement.
Most of the cities are within the 'Normale Pegelschwankung ' area, which Babblefish translates as 'Normal level variation'.

I couldn't determine what the high water marks were, but at least most of the arrows were showing a rising tendecy.

I think that we have to look at the individual city levels and if the trend is up or down. At this time of year, I don't like to see down trends.

We live in the same area of the country as you. We live in Las Vegas, Nv.
