The castle had been featured on the Travel Channel in Grand Castles of America.

No, stone does not burn. But, some stone contains water particles, which turn into steam 1700 times larger, and the stone explodes. This is the Romans destoyed Jerusalem in 69AD. Also wood beams, joists, floors, etc burn.

I remember seeing that house/castle on the Travel Channel a couple of years ago, white a house. Too bad it went up in smoke. Would have made a great tourist site.
