The Charlestown Port, more commonly known as the Saint Kits and Nevis ports in the city of Charlestown, is a moderately sized port. Visitors to the port will find ample supplies, including food, water and gas. This port is in use for both Saint Kits and Nevis Island visitors, mainly because the islands, though now separate, were once a single landmass. Currently a two-mile wide channel divides them. These lush green islands, with sky-high mountains, are an impressive view from a cruise boat.
Shopping
Once you enter the Charlestown cruise terminal, you will find plenty to do; especially in terms of shopping. Port Zante is a large shopping mall that continues to grow yearly. Within it, you will find numerous shops including perfume, clothing lines, and jewelry outlets. In addition, you will find souvenirs shops located along the port streets. Look for t-shirt shops, postcards, maps and more all along the port.
At the Charlestown cruise port you will find the Pelican Shopping Mall, located on Bay Road. This location offers duty free shopping including clothing, local souvenirs and jewelry. The Splash Boutique is the last stop shopping destination for many as they leave the Charlestown Port.
Things to See
In the Charlestown port of call, visitors can take in a little bit of everything; history is a great place to start. Charlestown port celebrates being the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton; you can find a variety of festivals and events taking place throughout the year. Travel to Low Street for a weekday exhibits and a reconstructed 17th century manor located on the waterfront. You will also find the Museum of Nevis History located here.
Visitors often come for the beaches. One of the best, Pinney's Beach, is located just ten walking minutes from the tender pier. Just follow the coastline to get there. At Ft. Ashby, you can go scuba diving. Visit the Nevis Botanical Gardens at the Montpelier Estate. Here, you will find lagoons, waterfalls, a rain forest and stream settings.
If you are hoping to get some golfing in, the Robert Trent Jones Jr. Golf course is located at the Four Seasons Hotel on Pinney's Beach. Another beach worth checking is the Oualie Beach at the Charlestown Port. Lover's Beach, located at Hurricane Hill, offers a very intimate setting.
Restaurants and Bars
The Charlestown Port does offer numerous restaurants, but one definitely worth investigating is the Café des Arts located in the Museum of Nevis History. You can also check out the Downtown Cyber Café. You will also find a number of great stands and shops located at Pinney's Beach. The Four Seasons offers Mango; a finer level of cuisine to enjoy. Visitors may also want to check out Chevy's; which is a restaurant that caters to locals. It offers local cuisine favorites, including Caribbean mutton and wings. Sunshine's is a similar option.
At the Charlestown Port, be sure to take in the surroundings as a whole. The water views from many of these buildings and locations are truly astonishing.
