The Mayreau Port is located in the city of Mayreau, just seven miles south of Canouan. It is a small village setting, with approximately 200 people. The port is well loved by visitors for its rustic charm and outstanding beauty. In fact, if you climb to Station Hill, the highest hill on the island, you will find some of the best views of the Grenadines. The Mayreau cruise port is centrally located on the island and you can walk to virtually everything right from the port. It is the smallest of the inhabited Grenadines, just 1.5 square miles, but you can expect to find much to do in this very small area.

Shopping

Some of the best artisan works are available for purchase here. You can count on finding favorites such as woodcarvings, handmade scarves and unique clothing. As you enter into the village area, which is directly from the Mayreau cruise terminal, you will notice that there is no electricity in the village; though some locals do generate it themselves. There are several rum shops here where you can build homemade rums and also watch how it comes together.

As you climb this hill, the village will open up more so and there you will find a few little island shops. The shops offer artisan works, but you can find some souvenirs here, too. The trek up the hill will take you about 20 minutes, but it is well worth the view.

Things to Do

There are a few things to do at the Mayreau port. First, climb to the village. If you are hoping to go scuba diving or snorkeling, you may wish to charter a boat to some of the nearby Tobago cays, as there are no facilities immediately available on the island.

If you are up for a challenge, consider the hiking trails that will take you through the dense forests. You can swim off the beach. The Saline Bay, which is where the Mayreau Port is, is actually quite calm and welcoming to visitors.

Restaurants and Bars

The village area of Mayreau Port offers several bars. Each of them, locally owned, offers a wide assortment of beverages, especially rum. Many bars also offer pool tables and island music. As you climb up to Station Hill, you will find Island Paradise Restaurant and Bar. A very popular restaurant on the island, as many of the cruise goers will come.

There is also the J & C Bar and Restaurant located midway up the hill. For seafood, visit the open and wildly colored Robert Righteous and de Youths Seafood Restaurant and bar. The restaurant plays Bob Marley music and offers a relaxed environment.
