Dominica Cruise takes you through the same locales in which Pirates of The Caribbean was shot. Officially known as the Commonwealth of Dominica, this small island nation is often referred as "Nature isle of the Caribbean" due to its seemingly unspoiled natural beauty,
A typical Dominica Cruise lasts for about 10 days and takes you to exotic locations like La Romana, Roseau, Cabrits National Park, San Blas Islands, Panama Canal, and Isle De Coiba, which will give you an nostalgic feeling (simply because you might have seen these places in some movies). There are numerous inbound cruise options to Dominica; however only few options are available for outbound cruises.
Dominica Island was discovered by Columbus in 1493 and it was named after the day (Sunday - Dominica in Latin) on which it was discovered. Being an island nation, it is a borderless country and largely covered by rainforests. It is also home to the world's second largest boiling lake. On the island, tourists have the option of exploring lush rainforests or the depths of Caribbean Sea because of volcanic nature of the island. Three important cruising destinations at Dominica are La Romana, Roseau, and Cabrits National Park
La Romana
It is the third largest town in Dominica and popularly known as the "company town" because of the tourism infrastructure that has been put in place. With 100 percent employment and most of the entire workforce concentrated in tourism, it is one of the most important tourist destinations in the country. The city is a perfect gateway for tourists from all over the world. Casa De Campo, a resort complex, houses some of the best golf courses in world--"Teeth of the Dog" being one of them. A 15-minute drive from La Romana takes you to Altos de Chavón, a replica of 17th century Mediterranean village replete with restaurants and bars, artist's studios, galleries, and craft shops satisfying the needs of all kinds of tourists.
Roseau
This small and compact urban settlement is the capital of Dominica, and it is surrounded by Roseau River and Caribbean Sea. There are numerous botanical gardens situated on the peripheries of Roseau, where species of flora and fauna believed to be almost extinct in Caribbean can still be found. Other fun activities include snorkeling at Champagne beach, wherein you can swim alongside parrot fishes. Sunbathing on black sand beaches is also a good option if you just want to unwind. Adventure enthusiasts can trekking to the boiling lake, Valley of Desolation, and Morne Trois Pitons National Park.
Cabrits National Park
Located at the north end of the island, this park is well known for its tropical forests, coral reefs, and wetlands. However, the most famous landmark of the park is Fort Shirley, an 18th century British garrison, which used to house 600 soldiers at some point of time. Although damaged now, some areas of the fort have been reconstructed and some parts remain hidden in the jungle. This place is a hot spot for hikers and trekkers. Also, there are several waterfalls and rivers in the surrounding areas, which can be explored on foot as well as through ATVs.
