The Puerto Rico Cruise offers a vacation experience that will surely make you come back for more. Puerto Rico is an archipelago situated at the northeastern part of the Caribbean. Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the US Federal Government, so there is no need for passports and visas to be here. A cruise to Puerto Rico usually begins and ends in the Port of San Juan. The weather is fairly tropical and summer months are usually warm. Most people go to the island during the winter season when the weather is warm and sunny but not excessively hot. A cruise will definitely let you enjoy the panoramic views of the archipelago while having your food and accommodations provided by the ship's staff. Puerto Rico is a perfect blend of natural and urban delights. The place also boasts 17th century Spanish architecture in the form of old Roman cathedrals, cobblestone streets, wrought iron balconies and fortresses. Puerto Rico also has the only tropical rainforest in the US outside of Hawaii called the El Yunque.
San Juan
San Juan, the oldest city in Puerto Rico has also been deemed as one of UNESCO's heritage sites. Experience the warmth and friendliness of the Spanish culture as you stroll along its major streets on the metro. The suburbs offer vibrant restaurants, colorful art scenarios and an exciting nightlife. Puerto Rico is well loved by beach bummers, history buffs, culture vultures and party animals. San Juan has a wide variety of antique and novelty shops that most art collectors would really adore. These shops are famous for their carved religious figures (santos), men's shirts (guayaberas), homemade lace (mundillo), carnival masks (vejigantes) and hand rolled cigarettes. Where to dine out? The city features a mixture of Spanish, Italian, Puerto Rican and some Asian cuisines. Expect a meal with rice, and beans served with pork/beef or seafood.
Bosque Estatal de Guánica
This is a 10,000 acre tropical rainforest that is situated on top of coral reefs that existed millions of years ago. The Guanica forest is also a United Nations Biosphere Reserve. It is perfect for hiking expeditions for trekkers all over the world. It is also a major destination site for bird watchers. There are over 80 identified species of birds in this sanctuary including a variety of hummingbirds, the pearly- eyed trasher, Puerto Rican mango and the Puerto Rican nightjar (this bird belongs to unique species that stays nearly motionless all day until sunset and lays its eggs on the ground).
Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico
This is one of the Caribbean's biggest museums and a must see for history enthusiasts. It is a 130,000 square foot structure that was once the location for the San Juan Hospital. Today, it is hailed as Caribbean's most extensive art and gallery museum, as it opened doors in the year 2000. It is now one of the major landmarks of Puerto Rico. Its neoclassical structure houses permanent collections from the 17th century up to the present.
