In general, Eastern Europe cruises embark from Vienna, typically covering popular destinations such as Bratislava, Budapest, Vukovar (Osijek), Belgrade, Kostolac, the Iron Gates, Vidin (Belogradchik), Rousse and Oltenita before disembarking at Bucharest. Some cruises also include major ports such as Prague, Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden, Königstein, Leitmeritz, Magdeburg, Meissen, Melnik, and Wittenberg in their itinerary.

The standard Eastern European voyage lasts 12 nights with majority of the cruises offering full board accommodation. Most of the cruise lines also have land packages for passengers, which include hotel accommodation and meals. In general, cruise cabins offer twin or double beds with en-suite facilities. Wine, beer, soft drinks, and bottled water are served with every lunch and dinner onboard. Guided tours around archaeological sites and cities are also offered at major ports.

The Eastern Europe river cruises sail along the Danube River through Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria before departing at the Black sea. Overall, Eastern Europe river cruises offer a combination of sightseeing opportunities along with free time to unwind. All Russia cruises operate from Moscow to St. Petersburg or vice versa. The cruise lines pass through all popular destinations such as Kazan, Volgograd, Uglich, Yaroslavl, Kostroma and Kamchatka. Russian river voyages offer a glimpse into the historic and contemporary Russia along the river Volga and lake Onega. The normal duration of Russian river cruises is from 11 to 13 days.
