Louisbourg isn't too overdeveloped in the way of shops and stores. You'll only find a handful, and many of them are convenience stores, mini marts or ship supplies providers. But at Arlies Gifts on Main Street, you'll find a vast array of gifts, souvenirs, crafts, shirts, jewelry and art. But Louisbourg isn't known for its great shopping opportunities. You're much better off exploring this coastal community and all it has to offer.
Things to Do
Louisbourg's claim to fame is the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site. A reconstruction of a part of the 18th-century French fortified town of Louisbourg, with more than 60 reconstructed buildings. Be treated to interpretations of costumed staff, indicative of 1744. Hiking is a refreshing pursuit here in Louisbourg cruise port. Ask your guide which trails are the best. But you may want to consider the Lighthouse Point Hiking Trail. An excellent destination for coastal views, picnicking and even swimming when the weather is warm.
Beaches are another main attraction here. Try Kennington Cove, Main-A-Dieu Beach or Mira Gut Beach, one of the more popular ones. For a dose of culture, head to the Louisbourg Marine Museum, showcasing 18th-century sunken ship artifacts, swordfishing display and a 300-gallon tank aquarium, among many other items. Get entertained at the Louisbourg Playhouse, where local talent serves up Celtic songs and dances. The Sydney & Louisbourg Railway Museum, boasting an 1895 station and freight shed, displays interesting exhibits about the history of the S&L Railway.
You may just want to stroll along the Boardwalk and soak up Louisburg's charming waterfront area, where you'll see many sailing vessels coming and going. You can't miss the Louisbourg Lighthouse at the entrance of the harbor. Take a closer look and tour the lighthouse for amazing coastline views.

Waterfront dining can be found at the Lobster Kettle Restaurant, the area's main waterfront dining establishment. Enjoy panoramic harbor views while feasting on fresh Atlantic lobster, snow crab, seafood chowder and fish cakes. The Louisbourg Station House Restaurant is a local favorite, serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner with a seaside flair. For something a little more casual, try Rovie's Pizza for fresh pizza or Destouches Coffee Shop for a bakery treat.
