The MS Amadea is operated by the Germany-based Phoenix Reisen. It was built in 1991 and has been under its current ownership since 2006. The Amadea ship is the largest of the Phoenix fleet. A total of 292 crew members serve around 624 passengers at any given time. The language spoken onboard is German, and the currency is the Euro. The decks are connected by a total of 5 elevators.
Ship Highlights
The Amadea cruise ship goes around the Mediterranean in addition to world tours. It has packages for the islands of the Indian Ocean and Africa, relatively unknown Africa and a Christmas package on request. Other packages include traveling from Safaga to Hamburg, Hamburg to South America, and even a world circumnavigation tour. There are trips that also take you through Tierra del Fuego and the Chilean fjords, the Canary Islands and along the South American coast, Australia, Palau Islands, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka, as well as Iceland and Norway.
Cuisine
Amadea has 2 restaurants that are spacious enough to serve all the passengers together. There is an option of having an early breakfast or a late breakfast. Lunch is served as a buffet, and the meal is usually preceded by a soup. Coffee is served in the evenings, and dinner is followed by late-night snacks.
Various bars are spread over the decks. The menu is composed of international dishes. Meals are served a la carte, but may not include the dishes of the local area. The various bars on the ship normally have different variations of the same cocktails. The staff is courteous and helpful.
Entertainment and Nightlife
Amadea offers daily shows in the lounge that are famous amongst the guests. These shows usually involve performances by the crew as well as stage actors.
Cabins
The Amadea has 2 royal suites, 40 suites, 254 cabins and 3 inside cabins. A total of 106 cabins have private balconies. The smallest rooms are about 183 square feet, while the largest are 646 square feet. The suites have a balcony with an area of 15 square feet.
The rooms have large cupboards, televisions, telephones, refrigerators and a mini bar. The beds can be converted to sofas for sitting. The staff is prompt in responding to problems such as defective TVs or air conditioning. The rooms are cleaned twice a day.
Recreation
Recreation facilities aboard the Amadea include a gym with cycles and treadmill. There is a golf course with a couple of artificial turf tracks for the enthusiasts. There is a small swimming pool too, 3 whirlpools, sauna, steam bath and massage parlor. The ship has a cinema, library and an Internet café. The ship is equipped with a doctor’s office and a hospital in case of a mishap.
Taking the Kids
There are a lot of activities for kids, including swimming, reading books, surfing the Internet and watching television. However, there is very little cuisine that is specially prepared for kids.
Onboard Fees
The cost of trips on the Amadea varies between 2,000 Euros to 24,000 Euros based on the length of the trip. This includes the cost of meals, table wine with lunch and dinner, tips, baggage transport, on-board entertainment programs, as well as taxes and port charges. The bookings should be made at least 3 months in advance.
