American Spirit, commissioned in 2005, is the longest and the largest cruise ship among the American Cruise Line fleet. With an on-board capacity of 100 passengers, the ship sails to different destinations and ports of call on the east coast of the United States of America. The normal speed of the ship is about 14 knots.

Deck Overview

American Spirit ship has about 51 spacious cabins. Out of these, 26 have private balconies. The rooms are fully furnished and include a satellite television. The large windows enable a picturesque view of the Atlantic Ocean and other sceneries. The cabins are designed for double occupancy; however, single occupancy can be available in these cabins at a higher fare. Attached bathrooms, which have shower stalls and standard toiletries, are also a part of the rooms.

The ship has four decks, out of which the staterooms occupy three decks, which can be accessed using the elevator. There are no room service facilities except for sick passengers. Tipping is usually high, at around $18 per day.

Cuisine

The cuisine is generally American in theme with a flavor of the East coast region. The most popular filling is seafood, such as crab cakes, fish, seafood salads, and Oysters Rockefeller along with seasonal or regional flavors.

Breakfast (served between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m.) includes three hot dishes that are changed daily. Lunch (served at 12:30 p.m.) is not so elaborate and is often a sandwich or a pork loin with goat cheese and onion along with salads. Dinner (served at 6:30 p.m.) is elaborate, which starts with complementary wine and appetizers followed by main course dishes.

The Cocktail hour is held every night at 5:30 p.m. with hot hors d'oeuvres in the lounge. Drinks are free during this daily social hour, which is well attended.

Itinerary

The cruise usually lasts for a week with the exception of the "East Coast Inland Passage" cruise, which lasts for two weeks. This voyage starts in Baltimore and touches Norfolk, Wilmington, and other popular destinations such as Myrtle Beach and Charleston. This beautiful journey covers Revolutionary War battle spots, theatres, and historic places. Myrtle Beach is a popular family vacation destination during summer.

Activities Onboard

The American Spirit Ship encourages travelers to mingle with fellow passengers. There is no dress code, which makes the atmosphere more casual and relaxed.

The ship is docked at a port around evening, and the guests can unwind and relax with complimentary cocktails before dinner. There is no fixed seating for dinner.

Guest lecturers, historians and naturalists are invited onboard to give interesting and informative lectures on different destinations. The ship also has a well-stocked library, which can be used by the guests.

American Spirit lacks entertainment options such as casinos and spas. Moreover, there are very limited fitness facilities.

Most of the passengers who have traveled in American Spirit had chosen this ship over other luxury cruise lines for its itineraries and amiable environment. This ship is popular with retirees.
