We're trying to decide on a Mediterranean cruise; the choices are HAL Veendam & Celebrity Galaxy. The 2006 Berlitz Cruise states that non-smokers could have a problem with HAL's smoking policy in both the dining room and the buffet: there are smoking & non-smoking areas of the main dining room, and one smoking buffet line & one non. This sounds like too close a proximity of smoke for our taste. (We're from Calif, where everything is smoke free, and we like it that way.) Also, the book stated a problem with smokers in non-smoking areas, while the crew did nothing to correct the situation.
We ask you experienced cruisers to share your opinions and help us decide if this issue is a deal breaker for us. Thanks much!
