dressing on the cruise?
We are going on a cruise to Alaska leaving May 31 - northbound Vancouver to Seward. I am wondering what to pack for evenings - do people dress like it is spring or for the cooler temperatures that are outside? What will the temps be like on the boat? I assume they don't need air conditioning.

Re: dressing on the cruise?
I only have one type of evening dress, fairly all weather and I always take a shawl, jacket or sweater with me. I learned the hard way on a Carnival cruise. My formalwear in those days was pretty flimsy. After the first formal night when I literally turned blue with cold, I ate in the alternative dining room the other formal night. That way I could stay casual and in warm clothes. People don't seem to dress as elaborately in Alaska as they do in the Caribbean.

Re: dressing on the cruise?
In our experience on several cruises to Alaska, most passengers
dressed in accordance with cruise standards and similarly as on
other destinations. Once big exception---the cruise ship will be
warmed and conditioned, but the outside weather can be very
cold. Take a heavy coat, with hood for rain, hats and gloves. We
have observed many with ear muffs. Whatever the weather, Alaska
is a beautiful place to visit. ENJOY

Re: dressing on the cruise?
I too have seen similar type dress as on other sailings re: evening wear. Just warmer. this is based on cruising 4 different cruiselines to Alaska- all were similar even Carnival!
