Default Unable to "wait-list" for Alaska mini-suite; why?

Based on info I rec'd from fellow message-boarders, I attempted to "wait-list" a category AC mini-suite on the Dawn Princess, Gulf of Alaska, 8/5/02. According to a Princess rep, talking through my TA, that category was "closed" and no "wait-listing" was happening. I asked about possible cancellations, but no go. Does this sound right?

Hi Shelley,
Its always possible some cabins will open up at some point, you just never know. Sometimes when final payment is due, some have to cancell and more cabins are then available, same for if a travel agent has some group space that they have to let go. So, just hang in there and keep in touch with your travel agent, hope it works out for you.

Hi Shelly... I have been following the Dawn Alaskan cruises for several months now. There were a few empty mini-suites on some of the cruises which were "bargain basement" priced about 6-8 weeks ago. It appears that Alaska land-tour-cruises are extremely popular this year (some think because of 9/11) that these land-tour-cruises sold out very early. This left the cruise line with cabins to sell off w/o land tours. These cabins also sold out very fast. You can still get cabins, especially inside ones, on these cruises for what I considerable a very reasonable price (maybe $800 PP bottom line), but outside cabins are extremely difficult to get, and balcony cabins are almost extinct. If they have a wait list, it's probably so long they didn't want to add any more names realizing that it could never come about. I know an inside cabin isn't a mini-suite, but...
