I've gotten car rental recommendations from this board for Skagway and Ketchikan, but I need one for Juneau---there are so many in Juneau! Also, is there a good on-line site to either order by mail or to print out that gives info on places to drive to around Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan (in addition to the obvious ones . . .)

It is important to rent only from All Star or Rent a Wreck out of Juneau as they are the only two with downtown shuttles. You would need a cab to the airport for the major rental companies. I have rented from All Star several times, Rent a Wreck closes at 6pm??? But I do believe they will allow dock drop off? confirm this. All Star- 800-722-0741 rent a wreck- 907-789-4111
Last September, I rented with Rent-A-Wreck and was told that we'd have to walk into town a few blocks to a parking building to meet their shuttle. The manager told me that they would be fined if they passed the dock "barrier". Good thing none of us were handicapped (. Overall, it was a great deal, but the manager was real nasty to us when he found out we had USAA insurance. He told us that he had nothing but bad experiences with claims through them. Naturally, this was a real surprise to us - since USAA is rated very highly by Consumers Reports. Oh well... just be prepared for a walk.
My wife and I just returned from an Inside Passage cruise on the MS Volendam. We rented a car from Hertz in Juneau. They were kind enough to pick us up and drop us off at the pier. We visited Mendenhall glacier, the Shrine of St. Therese, and the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. Had a great time. Enjoy your trip!
