Default any good shopping?

Taking our cruise to Alaska.....i wasn't thinking that is would be a good shopping cruise. We would be more interested in all the wonderful nature excursions.

However, in a few other posts here and on other boards there has been a bit of mention of shopping in the ports.

So just wondering what type of things are available to buy. Things you can buy anywhere? Or things made by the locals? Any good deals? I quess I'm wondering do I need to have lots of extra $$$ for shopping (which i wasn't planning for).

I would love to have a few nice momento's from our trip. thanks for any comments...jmarie

There are a lot of interesting things to buy. I am partial to some of the Native American artwork from the region. Yes, of course, there are t-shirts, sweatshirts, keychains, and logging suspenders. But I think the carved masks and other artwork are quite beautiful.
You can spend as little or as much as you wish.

Dear Chuck,
We are going on Celebrity"s Infinity to Alaska on September 12trh. I was happy to read
your article stating that shopping was worthwhile. Half the fun on going on a cruise is, not only seeing the diftterent ports of call, but shopping there as well. Who doesn't want to bring back that little momento of where you have been?
As my husband Rob and I are in our mid 50's we have vowed to "travel while we are physically able". Too many people let this wonderful opportunity go by. Kudos ot you and all of our other fellow cruisers. It certainly is the best and most economical way to travel!

Shopping abounds. Be sure to pick local magazines as they offer coupon deals in many of the stores. My wife likes the Skagway Outlet Store and it has all of the little trinkets you give to others at a godd price. By the way there is no factory outlet in Glacier Bay. I ran into a dedicated shopper that was very disapointed that we were not going to stop at the Glacier Bay Outlet store. Really burst her bubble.

I also like the shopping in alaska, especially in Ketchikan, nice town to walk around in, lots to see. My main concern was taking home a totem pole, and once on the trip I got it in my mind that I wanted a crystal one. Did see a few along the way and when I finally decided that, thats what I wanted, had a difficult time finding one, but I finally did, lost os lovely Alaska trinkets at all the stops, so have fun shopping!

It is important to note a lot of Asian made "Alaska" products. If you wish for authentic Alaska made look for the silver hand or bear symbol with the made in Alaska tag.
