I am going on Radiance of the seas at the end of July and have some questions about the excursions. Is the dog sledding better in Juneau or Skagway?
What are the differences between the whale watching excursions in Juneau: there is the evening whale watch, whale watching and wildlife quest, whale watching and orca point lodge. Is Mendenhall glacier worth seeing? Is the white pass railway any good? What are the chances of seeing anything?
Helicopter glacier dog sledding is more likely to go out of Skagway, out of Juneau it is the most canceled of all excursions. The whale watching differences is usually length and size of boat. Independents have much smaller the ship excursions use Allen Marine with about 120 passengers. The Orca lodge adds a salmon bake. Mendenhall glacier is certainally worth visiting especially for the hiking. But you will have a view if you take a whale watch, seen from Auke Bay. White Pass Railway- is excellent for history, scenery, engineering. If this is not of interest then choose something else. By all means though get to the Park Service Visitor center for some great free stuff.
