?? dressing for horseback riding out of skagway in sept.

i am thinking about the horseback riding tour out of skagway the 2nd week of sept out of skagway. (i really thought i was done with shore tours, but you know how that goes) and i dont know what i should take to be prepared for the tour if i go. i know the weather is very unpredictabele, but does anyone know how much clothing i might need need that time of year in this area. i thought about a sweatshirt and lightweight lined jacket if i need it. does anyone think i will this will be o.k. for this time of year. i will have a regular tshirt underneath. this tour is something i would really like to do and i also want to pack right for my shore tours. thanks, dusty

For horseback riding, you'll want riding boots if at all possible. Riding boots have a slightly raised heel, which helps prevent your foot from slipping in the stirrup and possibly getting caught.

If you invest in a good pair of riding boots, they can actually double as hiking books. An excellent brand is Ariat. They are not cheap, but they are well worth the price. I bought a pair of Ariats for a dude ranch vacation several years ago. They were so comfortable that I wore them for everything--hiking, BBQs, watching the rodeo, and even our day trip to Yellowstone.

I've taken that tour. They have a good string of horses. The site can be very muddy and it can rain. The person that advised you on BOOTS was right on. A packable rain slicker would be good too. Another tip: don't lie about your abiltiy to ride. These are not nose to tail Alpo kind of horses, if you are a novice say so.

even though it sounds fun and a great way to see the sites, i have decided not to do the horseback riding tour. i am going to meet up with others and do something else in skagway. so that is not on my list of things to do any more.
