Any recommendations for best side trips to do in Haines? We'll be there end of May on HAL.

Thanks.

Haines is the "eagle" capital. A nice couple museums in town. There is scenic rafting on the river and nice kayaking on the lake. Car rental is also an option? Request their visitor guide- www.visithaines.com

Thanks Karen -- I've been reading the posts for a while and you're a real source of information! I've followed several of your recommendations.

If renting a car in Haines where would you go and why is that 'better' than a tour to the Bald Eagle Preserve? Thank you.

Not saying it is "better". There are 2 independents that I know of for car rentals. You can drive the Haines Highway into the Yukon if of interest. Very scenic drive.

Thanks Karen. Half the fun of this trip is the planning! But just too much to do. I can see why you just keep going back!

The highway north out of Haines goes through the Bald Eagle Preserve. You might also look at the Kroeschel Wildlfe Park. He train animals for film telvision and has the most amazing collection of animals. Is also very knowledgeable. (For instance beofre I went there I had no idea that in general wolverines are shy and get a bad rap.) Great way to see wildlife rally up close.

We were there only at night (8pm-11p/12m) - my entire group felt it was a waste of time. I don't recall any type of tours there????? And, didn't see anything once we got off the ship.

This was many years ago & it's probably changed since.
