amazing Anchorage ice cream!

i just have to plug this little ice cream parlor i discovered in anchorage this summer... can't remember the street but it's near the captain cook hotel in downtown. it is called "liberty" ice cream and the man who runs the store is very friendly and generous with samples of all the delicious flavors. all the ice cream in general is beyond delicious but what i really loved, as a foodie, was the fun "alaskan" flavors they offered. fireweed and honey and AMAZING berry flavors. a great treat to carry with you too as you view the salmon on parade.

arg! 1 1/2 more years till i get my hands on more of that ice cream!

If you ever get to do the Yukon excursion, there is a little ice cream shop in Carcross that is out of this world !

Did you happen to notice the specific brand of ice-cream they were serving? The most popular one up here - Matanuska Maid - just closed down this year. It seems the federal subsidies for dairy farming in Alaska might have dried up... that, and I'm sure they were ready to retire after doing it for so many years as a family business.
