NCL Pearl 5/1/10 alaska cruise - NEVER been there - scenic tips? THKS!!!

We've 2 in-laws and a 1yr old infant along w/us. Our preference would be scenic areas, such as snow capped mountains, than, for example, whale watching. Our itin. are yvr - juneau - skag. - icy strait pt - ketch. - victoria - seattle. That's w/a 2 day pre-cruise tour of yvr.

On a May 1 cruise there are going to be snow-capped mountains EVERYWHERE! The best whale watching excursions are at Icy Strait Point and Juneau. Whale watching from the ship is very poor unless you get exceptionally lucky but 4-5 hours out of Juneau and near Icy Strait Point are the best locations.

When in Juneau take the tour bus to Mendenhall Glacier. You will see spectacular mountains all covered in glaciers and plenty of snow.

If you can afford the helicopter tour out of Juneau it is really great. May 1st is early in the year, I hope you don't get too much fog. Weather up there is very unpredictable.

We were in Alaska last May. Our favorite excursion was whale watching in Juneau. Not only did we see whales (and sea lions, and otters, and eagles... ), but the scenery was incredible!

We also did the White Pass Scenic Railway in Skagway. It was great, too!

If you nomally book a veranda room, consider doing it in Alaska. We have enjoyed many Alaska sights on our veranda, such as Tracy Arm, Glacier Bay, Hubbard Glacier, and the whole Inside Passage experience.

We wanted to rent a car in skagway but it seems Avis(only rental car agency?) will be closed that time of the year. Any suggestions?

May 1 the humpbacks are not fully migrated, so do not expect the numbers of mid season humpbacks on tours out of Hoonah or Juneau. Actually this is a great round trip Seattle sailing time (actually the only one ) as if you spend time out on deck south of Ketchikan, you should see them.

This itinereary is lacking a glacier sailing, so you may want to include plans for it.
