Default Drinking age

My Cruise Line Suggestion is to lower the drinking age to 16 once the ship is outside USA territory.

I don't think16, but I do think 18 would be appropriate. After all, most of the islands have this and not everyone is from the US that goes on cruises, for example, Canadians, Europeans.

Cheers,
Peter

I think the drinking age should be 18.......really a bad situation all around. Some people are so immature at any age...but if they can fight and die for there country they should be able to have a beer.
And I HATE people who are falling down drunk......just in moderation like anything else.

I would not mind if the drinking age was lowered to 18. If you can vote and serve your country then you 'should' be expected to act responsibly. If not, then remove your ability to obtain alcohol and if the problem persists then you are put off in the next port. This goes for all ages. I still remember serving my country during wartime and not being able to buy a drink. Not a nice feeling.

The legal drinking age in the Bahamas is 18, not 16 (visit the Bahamas Tourism website), but I think it isn't very strictly enforced.

16 or even 18 is way too low. With the increased amount of younger kids these days on ships I couldn't imagine the rowdiness that would go on. Let's be serious here, do we think these kids are just going to enjoy a glass of wine with dinner? I don't think so...

My very first cruise in 1986 was a high school graduation gift from my sister when I was 18 and she was 20. Back then, the age for both drinking and gambling on Carnival was 18. They also didn't have the rule yet about someone over 25 having to be in the cabin, so we were able to go just the two of us.

I remember how "grown up" I felt being able to order alcohol and gamble on the ship. Even though I absolutely HATE the taste of alcohol, I would order a drink every chance I got. I don't think I ever took more than a sip or two, but it made it seem special just to have it sitting in front of me. My sister isn't much of a drinker either, but between the two of us, we must have spent a fortune on alcohol on that trip just because we liked the freedom of being able to order it. Fortunately, now that I am WAY past 21, I no longer get the thrill just from ordering and my bar tab on each cruise is always exactly $25.00 (the cost of a Coke card). Saves room in the budget for more cruises!

I'm guessing that my sister and I are more the exception than the rule, though. Most 18 year olds would order the drinks AND actually drink them. Hence, the need for the higher drinking age.

I think the drinking age for Carnival should also be 18. No, I'm not 18, but I do have an 18 year old son. I think the things that people over indulge in are the things they shouldn't be doing, so if they can buy a beer the temptation will not be there. People needs to allow there kids to learn how to handle different situations. Just because you are 21 doesn't mean that you can handle or even think of the what will be the outcome of your actions.

I have always told my child to think of the outcome of anything he may do. I just wish more adults had learned that lesson as a child.

Again folks, this is not a board to tell others what you have experianced, what some places do, etc. etc. It is for cruise suggestions only. Many good and decent posts are being deleted simply because they are not approprate for this board but belong on the Chit-Chat board. The purpose of this board is to make suggestions of things that the cruiseline can 'reasonably' do and why. Also your opinion as to why they should, or should not as relates to the cruiseline. Thanks.
