Default Repeat customer

I originally posted this on "Ask Cruise Mates Staff" and then realized that forum does not get much traffic.

Are there REAL advantages to being a repeat customer with a particular cruise line?

If so, what are they?

We have sailed with HAL and NCL one time each.

You usually get a discount or other perks the more cruises you do with the same cruiseline.

APPARENTLY, YOUR SUPPOSE TO GET A DISCOUNT THE NEXT TIME YOU GO ON A CRUISE. NOW, I SIGNED UP FOR ALL THE EMAILS AND ALL THE CRAP FROM ROYAL THAT YOUR SUPPOSE TO. I HAVE THE CARD, YADDA YADDA....

HERE'S WHAT I THINK IS THE FUNNIEST THING. ROYAL HAS ALL MY INFO- THEY SENT ME THE MEMBERSHIP CARD AND ALL. YOU KNOW WHAT I GET VIA EMAIL? I GET A REQUEST TO BECOME A MEMBER!!!

I HAVE NOT YET SAILED TWICE ON ANY PARTICULAR CRUISE LINE. I HAVE SAILED ROYAL, AS STATED, AND CELEBRITY. NOW I AM ABOUT TO SAIL ON NORWEGIAN. I'LL BECOME A MEMBER THERE TOO - WHY? CAUSE I'M AN IDIOT!

I have never had a problem with getting special rates as a repeat customer on Carnival, I also book through a agency and this might be why, they may contact the cruise line and tell them how many times I hae cruised with the line. I am not sure if this is really what makes the difference or not.

When I researched Carnival cruises on Travelocity, I checked the past passenger box and depending on whether a special was running, past passengers got free upgrades. I have also heard that past passengers go to the head of the line for upgrades when booking a guarantee room.

Yes, you are rewarded with discounts if you take them.

Our Travel agent tells Carnival that we are all past cruisers and how many cruises we have all been on with Carnival. Well We always get upgraded and we get many perks from Carnival. We always have special little cards sent to our table a few nights. We have gotten some drink coupons, some play for the casino, some added onto our sail n sign. We always get free wine with dinner from our Travel agent, usually get chocolate covered strawberries and champagne per cabin. We are so treated so good by Carnival and our TA. We usually book groups too.....Happy cruising..

What Grandma said, plus, if you're Platinum (10 cruises or more) on Carnival, you get all kinds of great stuff. Yes, you go to the head of the line both to embark, and disembark. You get a platter of goodies in your cabin twice during a 7 day cruise. You get personalized stationary, and free wash and fold laundry service. You get priority in the dining room as far as your table, and seating goes. You get your own little area at the pursers desk, where you don't have to wait in line. You get priority on all the ships shore excursions. You get a tour of both the galley, and back stage of the big show room, and as stated above, you get better prices, and a good chance of upgrades. All in all, I personally think Carnival gives you lots more reasons to be repeat customers than any of the others do. (Yes, I'm at least Platinum on most of the other lines as well)

This is what princess offers for their Gold, Platinum, Elite past passenger programs.

We do get a bit of a price break being past passengers.

Also, we like the FCC (Future Cruise Credit) program they have. You purchase the FCC for $100, have 4 years to book a cruise or else you get your money back. Once you book, the FCC is your only downpayment, the rest is due when the final payment date rolls around. Our upcoming cruise, we got a $100 per person onboard credit.

Let me give you a slight clarification....don't want to mislead anyone.

If you buy 1 FCC, that will take care of the $100 deposit for the first passenger, $100 deposit will be required for the second passenger, any other passengers in the same cabin will have to pay a larger deposit. Also, the onboard credit applies only to the 1st and second passengers in a cabin and the amount is based on the length of the cruise & type of cabin booked.

Make your own reservations with the cruise lines. You will get upgrades if your going to get one regardless. I am going to alaska in May next month and I booked my own mini suite cat AA, and was upgraded to a Penthouse suite and this is my very first time on princess. Now why I got an upgrade I do not know. I did pay for all the cruise at booking? I booked my own flight, hotel, and transportation. The reason I book my own travel arrangements is because I like to be in control of my vacation. Now if you buy stock in a cruise line at least 100 shares you will get an on board credit on every cruise maybe a better deal then rewards cards which don't add up to much but some free stuff and a crowded cocktail party. If you like amenities go for a suite you get priority on everything.
